GOTY 2012

List items

  • Engrossing and beautiful in its tragedy. Plus, it reminds me of a special someone.

  • I thought I was done with zombies. I was wrong.

    P.S. I love you, Clem.

  • I am ambivalent about ME3 not because of the quality of the game itself but because I am ambivalent about the reaction it elicited from its audience. On one side, I'm not sure whether I would have been disappointed by the endings of ME had it not been for the influence of the internet. On the other, I loved the extended cut paragon ending and it would not have existed if not for that outrage. Regardless, I enjoyed my time with ME3 and it deserves a space on my GOTY list.

  • Exquisitely picturesque.

  • There came a point in which I had my fill of obscure puzzles and discovery. Still, even if I did not complete 726% (or whatever) of the game, I loved it till exhaustion.

  • BURST!

  • I have no excitement for the upcoming GTA V which I attributed to open-world fatigue. I suppose it must be something else, because I enjoyed this game plenty.

  • I don't stealth games, I'm too impatient. Some how I still got the no-detection and the no-kill achievements for this one.

  • HOLY SHIT FRACTIONS

  • As always, I can't get past the monkeys. As always, good while it lasts (my patience, that is).

  • Not sure, if it came out this year (the DLC certainly did). Regardless, me and my roommate played this game to tears.

  • I have not finished it yet but still... There's something magical about getting a steak bowl bad ending with Chie.

  • Still a sucker for these shallow flashy fighters!

  • Budokai 3's really good guys, I don't care what you say.

  • It's alright. I did not experience the big shocker at the end of the prologue because (and I resent this, Ubisoft) I read all the historical/biographical entries as I played and the they blatantly spoiled the revelation. So when the characters suddenly reacted in disturbed surprise I could only mutter "Wait, you guys didn't know? Was this supposed to be impactful?"

The single player mode is not very different to previous entries but it did feel like climbing (my favorite part) was downplayed. Moreover, the story and characters were dull. Fuck Connor, fuck the colonies, and fuck the revamped combat.

The multiplayer was as good as ever, however.

    A mixed bag, ultimately.
