FF4 is probably the first true RPG I ever played. I've probably beat it more times than any other games over the past 15 years or so.
While FF4 will always be my favorite, FF6 brought in openness and a huge cast of characters. The epic story at the beginning, and the non-linearity in the second half make this game one for the ages.
Baldur's Gate got me into Western RPGs. Once I figured out the "interesting" D&D mechanics I couldn't stop playing. Most people probably won't agree with me, but I enjoyed this game more than its sequel.
I always want to say that Torment doesn't deserve all the praise it gets. But then I remember how unique and simply enthralling this game is to play through. It truly does deserve every good thing said about it.
Back to the Infinity Engine! I'm sure most people ignore this one in favor of Baldur's Gate, but I really enjoyed creating my own party. The dungeons rank among the best in any RPG I have ever played. The tactical combat was challenging and those darned dice rolls made for some crazy fights. The sequel was amazing as well.
This game introduced me to the concept of an open world. Amazing for its time, they need to bring this series back!
Morrowind simply blew my mind when I first played it. I had messed around with fairly open games before, but the sense of discovery and being a lone hero in a strange land is unforgettable.
