GOTY 2011

Top 10 Games Of The Year 2011

List items

  • Runner-up : Dead Space 2 ---

For me Portal 2 is not just the best game of the year but one of the greatest single player campaigns games of all time. I really enjoyed Dead Space 2’s campaign but like most games it doesn’t even come close to the full blown epic that is portal 2. If that wasn’t enough Portal 2 also has one of the most fun coop campaigns I have played in a while.

  • Runner-up : Saints Row the Third ---

Rayman is an example of all that is great about video games as much as I love online multiplayer, violence and shooting dudes Rayman manages to be an amazing game without having the usual ingredients that most modern games have. Saints Row 3 is hilarious from start to finish but Rayman is so old school yet modern with its gameplay and visuals that I have to give it second place.

  • Runner-up : Gears of War 3 ---

I don’t need to say why batman is number three because you already know and if you don’t then you need to either play batman or shut up because you’re a bad person. Sorry Dom but your sacrifice was in vein batman is just too much game in on one disc for gears to take spot number three on the list.

  • Runner-up : Might & Magic Clash of Heroes ---

Magic 2012 is the sequel to my top game of 2009 it’s an amazing on-line competitive game and perfect for those that want to play the amazing game that is magic the gathering but don’t want to spend time on the hassles of card games.

  • Runner-up : Shogun 2 ---

Holy s*** this game looks god dam amazing, it’s a technical masterpiece that makes a lot of other games look a generation old and in my opinion has more fun gameplay then Dragon Age 2 and Skyrim as well as having a better story and sense of immersion. In a year filled with great RPG’s I didn’t thing the Witcher 2 would be the best. The only game that comes close to being as technically jaw dropping is shogun 2.

  • Runner-up : Deus Ex Human Revolution ---

This year was filled with games that tried to be different and LA Noir is by far the most different of the blockbuster titles. It’s the closet any game has come to making you feel like a detective and is terrific fun from start to finish. Also the fact there’s a Noir game that’s this good makes it earn number 6 on this list.

  • Runner-up : The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim ---

Skyrim has a large open world, better side missions and more player choices but dragon age 2 has better gameplay and main story. Its close but I personally (I know most people will hate me for it) think that dragon age 2 is a more fun and entertaining experience even though Skyrim has plenty of better components.

  • Runner-up : WWE All Stars ---

The only thing more amazing than the fact that someone made a good wrestling game in 2011 is that midway made a good Mortal Kombat game in 2011. WWE All Stars was a bigger surprise but mortal kombat is such an amazing fighting game that I have to give position 8 to it. Mortal Kombat has a decent single player story mode and that’s normally the week part of every other fighting game. Now Finish Him!

  • Runner-up : Halo CE Anniversary ---

I cant think of many game experiences this year that were more painful than trying to complete dark souls. This game was so difficult I almost gave up at three different parts thinking that I couldn’t get any further. However the game does not make this list because of its difficult because that’s my least favourite part. It makes this list because of how strange, fascinating and visually stunning its world is. Whether it’s the dark moon forest or the Anor Londo city. This game has one of the greatest fantasy worlds I have seen in a long time. Its environments and lore are matched in creativity only by creative games like the original halo. That games environment/world had the same effect on me ten years ago that Darks Souls did this year.

  • Runner-up : Hard Corps: Uprising

Bastion is an amazing game considering there were only 4 people full time working on it. It’s a short great story with an amazing world/lore and some great concepts like the narrator and some of the games songs. Bastion should be number 10 on this list. However I came close to putting Hard Corps on this slot for some strange reason I spent maybe 60 hours or more playing Hard Corps trying to levels up all the characters and complete arcade mode multiple times so hard corps almost takes number 10 by sheer number of hours played. I don’t know why but I just kept playing it but bastion deserves to win 10th place so I’m giving it to Bastion instead.
