@slightlytriangularrectangle:

A visual object or experience consciously created through an expression of skill or imagination. The term art encompasses diverse media such as painting, sculpture, printmaking, drawing, decorative arts, photography, and installation. The various visual arts exist within a continuum that ranges from purely aesthetic purposes at one end to purely utilitarian purposes at the other. This should by no means be taken as a rigid scheme, however, particularly in cultures in which everyday objects are painstakingly constructed and imbued with meaning. Particularly in the 20th century, debates arose over the definition of art. Figures such as Dada artist Marcel Duchamp implied that it is enough for an artist to deem something “art” and put it in a publicly accepted venue. Such intellectual experimentation continued throughout the 20th century in movements such as conceptual art andMinimalism. By the turn of the 21st century, a variety of new media (e.g., video art) further challenged traditional definitions of art.

From Merriam Webster.

You seem to think that calling something art is a subjective term that can only restrict the nature of the object. The reality is that even things not specifically made as art are art even if the creator doesn't call it such. The distinction is ultimately unnecessary because art encompasses pretty much every conscious expression of skill. When you say something is art all you are saying is that it was done with skill and/or imagination. Any other meaning to that word is your own imposition.

edit:

art comes from the latin artum which means

work of art; practical skill; a business, craft

from online etymology dictionary.

No I am saying that attempts to limit the scope of art beyond it's intended and original meaning is by its very nature snobbish. Any act of willful creation is fundamentally an artistic process. Art is not limited by medium or by intent. There is nothing wrong with saying that art is not a subjective thing that can have different meanings depending on the person. Appreciating art is subjective, but art itself is not.

You asked whether it matters if video games are art or not, no, it doesn't. However you think it does. That by calling something art you limit what it can be. Art is only bound by our own limitations on creativity and imagination. You would define video games so that they are not art, not define art so it doesn't include video games, which only works to limit what video games can be.

@slightlytriangularrectangle: The only valid definition of art is an expression or application of creative skill and imagination. Most people would add where the purpose is primarily to be appreciated as such. I don't agree with the last part. Any expression of creative skill and imagination is art. Some of my favorite works of art are from Jacques-Louis David. His works were not primarily motivated to be appreciated, but were a propaganda tool during the French revolution. However his creativity and imagination coupled with incredible skill makes them some of the best examples of art being created at the time.

There are snobbish 'artists' out there that would wave their superiority over others and dictate what is or is not art, but a carpenter making a chair is art, an architect designing a house is art, A video game designer creating a video game is art. Even the plastic fork I used to eat my Christmas dinner is a work of art (it isn't a particularly moving or meaningful piece of art, but the design is certainly an example of creativity, skill, and imagination).

Tauras has slow hard swings, learn their range and stay just out of it. during his recovery hit once then get back. If you have firebombs it goes really quickly. when he backs you up near a tower run towards his feet, roll until you get past him and sprint away. drop attacks work well but you need enough time and distance to get up the ladder first so I recommend doing it once only, don't always keep your guard up, keep your stamina up, guard when your stamina is full or when you see a swing coming. get a 100% damage reduction shield, the soul arrow spell is pretty useful and you can buy it near fire link shrine if you search around a bit. don't be afraid to grind for souls either, sometimes the few extra levels will make a hard boss a manageable boss. Grinding is also practice, You are still early in the game and knowing the speed of your attacks your recovery time when hit, and practicing your roll and dodge skills is a good idea. every time I play with a new weapon I make the same run through a particular area until I have it down solid. At this stage armor isn't that important (it provides a lumpy benefit, which only means it isn't worth it unless it actually makes you take 4 hits to go down instead of three), try to stay at under 50% equip load, better if you can stay below 25%, It isn't just fat rolls you need to avoid but your movement speed is also much slower above each of those thresholds.

most important heal or attack while the Demon is recovering from his own attacks, There is one in particular if you watch him that gives you a nice wide opening.

I hope that helps

This may be an unpopular opinion but I feel space exploration is a waste of time and money, at least right now. I am cool with sending robot's into space, but not people. There is so much worthwhile science to be done here with the money. Space is emptiness punctuated with tiny Islands of stuff. Most of that stuff is beyond our reach. However, we are sitting on top of a vivid, flourishing island in the sea of space that we still know so little about. Every deep sea expedition yields dozens of new species that help to explain our origins. We are obsessed with finding life on other planets, but we still know so little about life on the only planet we know that has it. I like to use an analogy for space flight. our corner of the galaxy is like the pacific ocean, and we are like ants. some of our colony has made it to a small rock a few feet into the ocean and think it is amazing.

@eujin: I rewatched that section and you are totally right, I just picked up on him saying that this was the level of quality they are targeting for next generation consoles. This made me think target render, but he did say it was in engine real time at the beginning.

The icons only exist as Capcom's way of saying "THIS IS A GAME GUYS TOTALLY NOT PRE-RENDERED YUP."

Exactly. There is no way that was gameplay footage — no one even said that it was, everyone is just assuming. If they aren't even bothering to lie about it, I think it's safe to assume that was a target render. Looks amazing though.

but Ono did say it was running in real time on the PS4. No this wasn't game play, more like some in engine cut-scenes mixed with some game play looking in engine cut-scenes thrown in to say this is what playing might look like. Not a target render, but also not yet a game. The final fantasy video was a target render though.
