My games of 2020

My favourites from the games I've played in 2020. Not all of them were released this year because like everyone else, I have a huge backlog of games.

List items

  • I was about 30 hours into Persona 5 when Persona 5 Royal was on sale. I've found the fun and I think this single-handedly rekindled my interest in JRPGs. This game might have jumped near the top of my list this year because of it's improvements in game design, features, and characters making the game even more fun and interesting for me. I haven't finished yet as I'm creating this list but it's promising.

  • I played the entire franchise this year. I love the characters, world, and lore and art direction. There's a level where you can jump between the past and the present in real time and it effects gameplay, solves puzzles, and unlocked new paths and story possibilities and it rocked my world.

  • So this is what it feels like when your childhood, nerdy dreams come true, huh?

  • I've found I'm a sucker for time loop stuff. The more is revealed about this game, the better it gets, without having to add upgrades but with learning more as a player. And then the ending, breathtaking.

  • Into The Spider-Verse is my favourite movie of all time at this point and i didnt expected this game to reach that bar. But boy, did it come close! This game has a great version of Miles, Peter, and the whole Spider-Man universe. Arguably better than their original comic book counterparts. The gameplay is fun and satisfying and the swinging is so damn good, I sometimes turn it on just to swing around and chill.

  • I bought in when they had the Marvel season because I'm a sucker for that stuff. And I preferred their Avengers skins compared to the actual Avengers game. I haven't really dug in before then but now that I have, I gotta admit, there's a pretty good game here!

  • Continuing this battle royale theme, This is my preferred gameplay design when it comes to this genre. I bought into this season as well because I like the new character, Loba. This came at the start of the pandemic so this was one of my main comfort games to keep myself distracted.

  • Battle royale games seem to be the the genre I turned to cope during this pandemic to help get away yet feel connected to the outside world. Plus, trying to get Number 1 every round versus opponents that are around the world it truly addicting.
