I followed the dev of this game on Twitter when clips of his rollerskating and shooting gameplay demo went rival and was interested in seeing it become a full game. When he stopped posting I assumed he had got a job at a big company and gave up developing the game until he announced that the game was picked up by Roll7, probably the ideal outcome for everyone involved.

I got the game on release and enjoyed it but as the game went on found myself increasingly struggling with the difficulty of the arenas. I never identified any specific mechanics I disliked, I just couldn't survive and kill all the enemies.

Coming back to it now I see I was stuck about half way through the levels, first mission of the third set, with about 10 hours play time. I also see that there are some very deep assist options which I believe must have been added since I played. Hopefully playing with those will get me to the end of the game in the next few days.

If I make any progress I'll be sure to report back.

I played the demo when it released and found the game interesting but wasn't sure if it would hook me. Felt a bit rough at first because of the controls, I assume it's what you'd call animation priority, it was a bit awkward at first but I quickly came to enjoy it and in a game like this you need a detailed movement system, you can't just take the Assassin's Creed climbing system and expect it to work here.

As you finish the first chapter the systems seem thin but new climbing mechanics are added at a steady pace through most of the game. Many are situational but some only persist for a chapter, this works for making the gameplay interesting throughout but I thought they might all come back for one final challenge at the end of the game.

I have to admit I skipped through most of the readables. I was able to follow the story from the unvoiced cinematics but I only figured out at the end of chapter 4 that Bianca's diary provides the story of the drought, maybe I'll go back and read those. I like readables but its a lot of text which isn't gameplay critical for a short linear game.

Then there's the ending which I thought was sweet and emotional, a nice ending for a cute, visually and mechanically engaging game.

This song was played ahead of last night's UPF, a few folks were asking about it on the chat. Band's name is LONO but AudioNetwork lists the members individually, it's actually two separate songs on their album which can be found on Spotify.

Only Doom Eternal and THPS 1+2. I've completed Hardspace: Shipbreaker and Teardown too but they're both in Early Access.

Spotlight - 5/5

A Biopic about a team of investigative journalists at the Boston Globe in 2001 who start looking in to accusations of sexual child abuse by a priest the Catholic Church covered up. When they begin investigating they're shocked as dozens of cases come to light.

Philomena - 5/5

Another Biopic, also about the Catholic Church. A writer helps an old irish lady look for the son she was forced to give away. Coogan and Dench are so good at bringing humour in to the drama, the story takes so many dark turns yet it's still uplifting.

Not sure why there were two films criticising the Church on TV last week but I'm glad I caught both because they're some of the most fascinating watching I've had in a while.
