Disappointing game of the year. This is the first time I feel like I've sort of wasted my time watching the podcasts instead of just reading a synopsis. I know this isn't the first year for the long "year in review" recaps days early on, but it's the first I can say they definitely aren't for me, at least if they're going to replace... like at least half of the categories?
The lack of cross-coast face time playing games is also a disappointment. Is there just the one Winter Games video where some combination of folks got together and actually played a game?
Watching this reminds me of the old days of trying to play a poorly optimized game on an underpowered PC that looks like it's about to crash and turn into a ball of fire because of how much it's being pushed.
Yeah, seeing performance like this would definitely be the point where I'd be thinking about making some major upgrades to my PC. I know they say the framerate looks good for them, so part of it is possibly the stream, but man both framerate and quality look bad from here.
The "actor" that plays Don may have given the worst performance I have ever seen in a video game. And that says a lot.
I'll get your fucking pizza-guy from Tender Loving Care is a close contender.
Yeah, I'd say just about any of the three main leads from Tender Loving Care is worse. (John Hurt still turns in a good performance, and the receptionist was fine for what she had to do.) But on the other hand, it might be really generous to call TLC an actual "video game".
Yeah, as others have said, putting a time limit embargo on 25 year old video games is incredibly stupid. So stupid it actually feels suspicious. Are they actively trying to hide something? Does this thing melt down after an hour of play?
Also, I was sort of hoping for 15 minutes of menus.
It feels like internet service providers and the video game industry have very different views of how the internet is going to work in five years. Data caps seem to be looming on the horizon, but for some reason the games industry seems weirdly gung-ho to implement a bunch of streaming services that are going to be effectively gridlocked sooner or later. Either that, or they seem to be assuming that people are going to be so wow-ed by streamed gaming that they'll suck up the extra $50 bucks per month or so they'll be paying in data fees.
Just watching the left third of this video, VR is definitely getting better and better at making you look like a total idiot. The freedom to spin around in a circle certainly helps facilitate that. Not sure if the actual games are getting better though.
