If Capcom had not given up on Dragon's Dogma after the first freaking try it could have almost been close to something like this game but with a a much heavier combat slant. What a goddamn stupid company.
This game looks amazing btw. As someone who has never owned or played any Nintendo games this looks like something special. I always hoped we'd see a true Skyrim style game from a Japanese dev and this here looks like that and much more.
When he shot that exploding x bow in the crowd of zombies I was like: Yup, I think I might have to look into getting this when it gets on the PC but then when they couldnt hand to hand melee I was back out again. I really hope there are melee based weapons that allow that at least. Or I'll just get DR 1 during winter sale.
Boy if this is the best of the rest of the Hunting types games for Jason then I wonder about the other games cause boy does this game look rough.....eeesh. Crappy animations, lousy graphics, meh gameplay and of course.........the anime.
Yeah this game is pretty cool, got it when it came out of early access. The combat and items are really what you're coming here for because like Jason said the game is rough around the edges.
Yeah, they really upped the wow factor of the movesets by alot. If you just want to see crazy light shows decimating swathes of enemies then for sure this game will scratch that itch. Personally I dont like the combat in SW anymore, kinda feels like they jumped the shark. Its hard to explain but probably long time Warrior games fans will understand what I mean.
I would recommend Dynasty Warriors 8XL instead. It has a more solid(er) combat system that I prefer. Either way though, be careful with the PC versions, Koei are notorious for their shit ports. I mean "release game and dont bother to patch it EVER" tier of shitty-ness. Controller support isnt even good at all. If you dont have a controller that can use direct inputs then you're probably stuck using the kb/m and I dont want to guess what kind of tire fire they created with their kb/m setup.
Does the Final Fantasy Dissidia series interest you at all, Austin? Its an arena fighter too but maybe more melee focused than this game seems to be. Might be worth a look unless you have to have mecha theme to your arena fighters :p A Dissidia sequel is set to be released for the arcade and then PS4 later down the line I think.
My biggest issue with games like this is the economy is usually not balanced during the early game. Its takes a loooong time to feel like you're making progress and even then the progress is in tiny increments.
It was my issue with Starpoint Gemini 2 even though I liked the game a fair bit.
