@staff You may want to consider what is currently showing on https://www.giantbomb.com/upgrade/ as it is, following this announcement, incorrect in many places.
To be frank I'm quite shocked that premium benefits are incorrectly stated nearer to the point of sale at this moment in time. At best, quite confusing to a new-to-site potential customer, at worst potentially a false bill of goods, or false advertising.
Note also that I landed on the upgrade page from a prioritised tile under the "Just The Facts" section on the site homepage; facts these aren't!
Wishing Jeff the best, and hoping the best for the site, too.
Very sorry though, that the parting was so abrupt and seemingly aloof on GB’s part, based on this post. No send-off for the founder; no celebration for a 14+ year effort, not just contributing to, but creating and building, this site. Brad, Vinny & Alex got so much better.
Who knows what happened.
But if nothing else, this soulless, unsigned and transparently vague post - downplaying the departure of a founder of a personality-driven site - tells us all just how much GB has already changed. And to me, certainly a red flag despite optimism around the creative people being put together to form the new ‘core’.
You guys got the name of the game wrong on your YouTube upload of this one. Just popping you a note- thought more likely to be seen here than over there. (You also didn’t add “: Quick Look” to the end of the title, but wasn’t sure that was a mistake or not, maybe one of these new stylistic choices…)
Yes, I was disappointing when Jeff was able once again over-influence the staff decision regarding GoTY and push Hitman to beat DOOM on the basis of its weaker multiplayer elements.
So I am gratified that the community GB duders are able to overlook this obviously flawed argument and go with DOOM, which was also my GoTY by some distance.
The Witness, whilst not for everyone, is a puzzle gaming masterpiece and I wish could be represented as such in the populist vote. That it also came out so early in the year also plays against it unfortunately.
... I loved the steady stream of impressive trailers the Bomb crew seemed very underwhelmed...
I think the point they made (on the 'we talk-over' video perhaps more) was that you don't need a press conference to show trailers. The traditional idea of the presser is to give insight into the vision of the platform, from content to services to hardware and so on.
I'm kinda with the crew on this in that, although I thought the games looked better at Sony, the conference at Microsoft was actually more interesting to watch and gave a better feel of where they're going with their platform(s). The Sony press conference, removed from the pomp and spectacle of the live orchestra (which of itself was impressive but might be considered a smoke screen), could really have been: "We've sent you all 10 URLs for trailers and/or gameplay demos, please go watch them and have fun".
I feel like we've been here before.. can't describe this Deja-vu. Don't understand dropping the playstation brand either (why not "Playstation Entertainment Inc" or similar?). Feels like Sony merge/demerge the Playstation brand(s) as and when it suits their wider business needs, and it never particularly helps the gaming side.
