This game made me say "I'm Batman" and mean it. Over and over and over. That's enough for my Game of the Year.
Assassin's Creed (the first) was probably the most disappointing game I ever finished. I was a little hesitant about the sequel, but man, it ended up being my favorite open world game of all time. Gameplay, setting, and storytelling are all top notch, and this 20 hour experience left me just wanting more.
Valve took my game of the year for 2008 (and the one I played the most in 2009) and improved upon pretty much everything.
The campaign was a bit of a let down from a storytelling point of view, but everything else about this package is a vast improvement over one of the best console shooters ever. I've already put too many hours into the multiplayer, and I've barely even started.
My iphone game of the year. It has saved me from many boring afternoons and waiting rooms.
