USA's missile defense system is superb (not counting nukes), so we would be able to eleminate many enemy combatants before they even got to North America, and once they got here, I think America could fend them off, and maybe even win. I don't think it could withstand a sustained conflict of more than several years though. In such a fight, America would have to go on the offensive and quickly take over Canada and South America (Venezula = more oil for the war machine). From there, I don't know if the USA should go on the defensive, of if it should try to go toe to toe with Russia and China, but either way I think we'd have a shot.

However, if nukes got involved noone would win. Everyone would lose. There wouldn't be anything left.

And yes, in total war America could take out Canada relatively easy. Of course Canada would put up a fight, but wouldn't win. Alright well what i'm saying that is if there were 2 countries fighting against each other and everyone in the country was involved in fighting and defending their country, then that would be a war that would last a long time.
So a war like that but with all countries involved would probably be bad.

They won the war in Iraq (20 million people) with approx 300 (not a typo) casualties.

The fact is, once you start breaking down the numbers, only a fraction of the world's population has the resources to put even a single pair of boots on the North American continent, even given a month's notice. Then you look at the geography, which is basically Canada and Mexico. Canada has good elite and special forces, but has reduced their overall military to very little since World War 2. Mexico has a sizable "army," but it's essentially a third world force. If US forces seized the Mexican isthmus, invading from the south would be almost impossible, no matter what the numbers were. Invaders would have to come through Northeast and Northwest Canada...not exactly Rio. Then, of course, about a third of Americans own guns and many of them are multiple gun owners.

Of course, all this assumes no nukes. If it's nukes, then it's pretty obvious who wins: whoever starts first."
