Ryan did mention that he is a fan of the more arcady sports games, and the Tiger Woods series. The ones reviewed on this site definitely fall in that category. They did discussed this topic in past Bombcasts a while ago when there were only two of em'. Help yourself to the archive.
The Bigs is more of a sports game than Sluggers is. But TECHNICALLY, you are correct, Fake DR. My guess is they are talking more about the realistic types of games that feature actual people from the real world and such. Ya know, like Madden...or FIFA...or WWE Smackdown vs Raw...

Maybe they just refer to the games that get updated every year that are pointless to review?
I'm sure they'd review a new Mutant Football League, though. So, maybe the more simulations are where they're coming from.

"Uh, I was afraid that might happen. This is NOT a dissing effort. Giantbomb has openly agreed not to review sports games because they're simply not fans of it. So rather then trying to appeal to a larger crowd by putting up sports games reviews, they just stick to the genres they know and love, which earns them my total respect. IGN's review of WSM 09 is an example of a review written by someone who's not a fan, persumably."

Ah. I was completely unaware of Giant Bomb's stance on not reviewing sports games. I'm sorry that I took that in any negative manner, and thank you for the clarification.

So is that title supposed to be a diss against Giant Bomb...because if so...that's pretty fucked up.
As for the review itself, IGN made the right choice on this, even if I felt that the dood who reviewed it made some pretty good points in his review about the presentation, sound, and other technical aspects of the game. As was previously debated in another thread, though, the guy did not understand exactly what he was reviewing.
