I was so obsessed with this game when I first got it, couldn't think of anything else but it till I was done. I've cooled on it but it's impact on me was powerful.

For the first half of the game I was not enjoying it at all. The controls felt strange, the game was too easy, and the story beats were forgettable. By about two thirds through however those qualms started to fade and instead were replaced with a delight at inventive subversions of classic mario tropes and a drive to explore every nook and cranny of it's worlds. I still dislike it holding out the real challenge till postgame like all mario games since galaxy but it's still a pretty outstanding game.

I never liked 2d sonic before this game. Never. So if you told me that a classic 2d sonic game, that most of it's levels are remixes of prior 2d sonic levels, would be so high up on my game of the year list I would have never believed you.

No game has drawn me in emotionally like Nier probably ever and on top of that it has an awesome soundtrack. A huge time commitment is required though.

Server problems and technical issues force me to put absolver this low on my list. I greatly enjoy this game, when I can play it, and await for when the dev can get this game together.

dishonorable mention: was very exited from playing the alpha but balance changes at release ultimately wrecked this game for me.

dishonorable mention: I really want to put you on the list buddy, I love you but I cant in good conscious put you on this list with your botched blindbox progression, its killing me. (update the servers are okay now.)
