In a sense yes. I may come off quite harsh, but I'm really just looking out for the community. There really isn't enough discussion going on in this thread. The discussion that has gone on could have been made into several topics that would not have given incentives for people to spam in.
I just believe having a Roll Call thread in the long run is not a good idea that will no degrade the quality of the forum and turn people away. All of that is really too bad because I think this forum has quite a bit of potential. "
I don't know how a Roll Call would turn people away...besides, spam is sometimes bad and sometimes fun. That's pretty much the purpose of Roll Call, and I don't see any other guy complaining much about it. Roll Call is meant to be fun...if it causes so much trouble, then lock it, seriously. "
All forums have spam. As someone pointed out yesterday, even NeoGAF has spam; it's unavoidable. Having a giant (no pun intended) thread that is topicless is an incentive for people to spam in which you can not deny, has occurred here. I can easily look through the many pages and find numerous examples. Large threads full of spam give the perception that users here only care about upping their post count, especially with the top poster charts. An even larger issue is because it is topicless, it is difficult to moderator since there is no exact rule in a topicless thread what is spam and which is not (and there is a difference). If you ban one person over their post and not someone else's, people may become angry and complain, accusing mods of favoritism and what not; I just don't see how it could work, but I could be proven wrong. I have not seen any signs of moderation in this thread yet.
I may be the only one complaining, but others have posted in here with their disapproval. They may not be actively pushing for this thread to be locked, but that may have to do with them either not caring enough (especially at this point in the forum's life span), just being use to having the thread at Gamespot (which doesn't make it right, since this is not Gamespot) or them having already given up trying. This forum is only 3 days old; change can still occur.
You can still have fun in the off-topic forum without the Roll Call thread as others have shown. :) "
