I remember The Witcher 2 being a really good piece of demo software after I got my last video card. It was also one of my favorite games that year.

It's not free, but if you're a fan of the "Metroidvania" style games (Super Metroid, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night) I HIGHLY recommend Shadow Complex. It's the best homage to Super Metroid I've ever played, and it's been one of my favorite games on Xbox 360 since I got the console in 2006.

I'd like to second the recommendation for Valkyria Chronicles. It sounds like I have similar taste to the TC, and Valkyria Chronicles is one of my favorite games of this generation. I also enjoy the Disgaea games, but I would recommend Valkyria Chronicles over that. As far as story goes, it's basically a World War II allegory set in a fictional setting that's heavily inspired by the real life setting of the European theater of World War II. It deals with a lot of similar themes as your favorite World War II movies as well as themes involving family, love, and running bread shops.

It's also a very interesting game mechanically if you enjoy methodical, turn based combat and strategy games. There's some real time elements to the combat, but only when carrying out a turn. There's no real time element while planning in between each character's individual movement.

Do you like the idea of eating chicken with soggy breading? Imagine taking a chicken fritter from any other fast food restaurant (Wendy's, Arby's) and soaking it in lukewarm water for 10 minutes, then quickly throwing it on a bun.

Also imagine your hands are now greasy and defiled.
