Brock Lesnar is the Best Heavyweight in MMA.

I’m going to say this right off the top, Brock Lesnar is the best heavyweight in mixed-martial arts right now. I’m well aware he is a controversial figure. I’m well aware he has many haters. Let’s be honest, most people think that because he used to be a pro-wrestler he makes their sport look bad. They may be right, but why are we still arguing his legitimacy?

Many fans complain about the fact that Lesnar got the rocket on his back when he came to the UFC. Know this, Lesnar was a two-time NCAA Wrestling All-American, the 2000 NCAA heavyweight champion, and finished his collegiate career with a 106-5 record. His NFL Combine numbers are also staggering, a 475lb bench press, 695lb squat, 10′ standing broad jump, 35” vertical leap, and a 4.7 seconds 40-yard dash, all while weighing 290lbs. Not to mention that he was already a draw.

However, it gets to a point where many fans complain specifically about how fast he got his title shot. Randy Couture also won the UFC Heavyweight Championship on his fourth fight. Complaining about Lesnar getting his shot so soon is, by logic, hypocritical. Can we not hold him to the same light for his accomplishments in the octagon? The fact that fans don’t still blows my mind. They view him as a jerk. Yet his past in pro-wrestling has taught him, in a less than humble way, how to sell tickets. Believe me when I say this, he is only trying to sell tickets.

Sure, Lesnar has yet to face Fedor Emelianenko. Let’s face facts though, when Lesnar gets a fight to the ground, he is ridiculously dominant. Not to mention that he has been training with the best. Shelton Benjamin, former WWE star, was Lesnar’s assistant coach. Within weeks of training Lesnar far surpassed Benjamin. Which only means his boxing and Brazilian jiu-jitsu are only going to get exponentially better with each and every fight.

Bottom line, Brock Lesnar is the best heavyweight in mixed-martial arts today. If you don’t think so, then put the hood from the Affliction hoodie over your eyes, and try to fight someone for no reason either than the fact that you are an idiot and truly have no respect for mixed-martial arts.

P.S. Of course, I do not think Lesnar is unbeatable, every champion’s day will come.
P.S.S Except Rocky Marciano

I just copied my blog over from IntheOT.com. Shame on you for thinking that I'd post this for twitter followers. I could care less about the number that I have. I just thought that my blog would bring an interesting discussion.

@Bucketdeth: I will admit that  Alistair Overeem is an amazing talent, and a beast. This is, and always will be, a debatable subject. With Lesnar improving the way he does each fight though. I truly think he is the best heavyweight right now. Not ever, but right now. Someone will beat him. MMA is a very unpredictable sport.

o true, i don't like the chest tattoo. it looks stupid it's like a sword with the handle being brass knuckle design. the rest of the tattoos are good on him of it having a theme type of thing, they are all being skulls.

he is an alright MMA fighter. his fighting is just good. i think that his ground game needs a lot of work. the last fight he submitted someone just needs to do more than a choke.

I think he's good. I thought he was shitty (and I think looking back we can all agree) when he first came onto the scene. But he's getting better. I don't think he's the best. He needs more fights and more importantly, more wins.

I just don't like him because he has zero respect for anyone he fights. I get that fighters need to be arrogant if they want to be number 1, but to me i just feel like he's too much of a dick to ever cheer for him.

@Kolonel_Kool: I just think hes a total dick.  I really dont find MMA fun to watch either.  Ground and pound, or joint locks/chokes are lame.  Id love to see a no take down match between Lesner and Tank Abbott.  Take downs should just be removed from the sport imo.

He proved against Mir that he can learn from mistakes and come back from defeat.
He proved with Herring that... uhhh, well, he kicked the shit outta Herring.
He proved with Couture that his ability can battle experience.
And he proved with Carwin that he has a chin to be reckoned with.

I'm so curious who and how many he has to defeat before the haters will at least say "I still think he's a dick, but yeah, he can throw down".

Frankly Fedor is in a real bad spot right now. There's a lot of Fedor fans and also a lot of UFC haters out there that continue to tout his name but fact of the matter is, if he never comes up to fight Lesnar his long term legacy will be ruined. More people will end up remembering him as "the guy who wouldn't fight Lesnar" than "the guy who dominated the Strikeforce heavyweight division". "

I would not go that far lesnar is a beast but he still very new and has not even made a legacy for himself now if he lost and did not have the belt people would forget about him and move on to the next big time at the time. That is why he need to keep doing what he is doing to form his legacy. Fedor has his and could quit fighting right now if he wanted too and people would still talk about him.

The best Heavyweight in MMA?
Hes had a total of 6 fights: Min-Soo Kim honestly doesn't exactly count; beating Heath Herring on points doesn't really scream best heavyweight to me; beating an ageing Randy Couture in a weight division which he clearlty doesnt belong in also doesn't really cut it and being totally dominated by Shane Carwin for the entire 1st round of their recent bout doesn't cement the notion of him being the best heavyweight. I'm not touching on Mir as being 1-1 with him is credible to say the least.
By know means am I taking away what he has accomplished because the guy obviously has phenomenal natural talent however he is by no means the best in his division, hes at least 6 or 7 dominant performances away from that yet.
Also the idea just because he excelled at wrestling that he will have the same type of progression within other disciplines is a little short sighted, there's a huge difference between every single dynamic of MMA. Give it a few years before we start claiming Brock as the second coming of christ.
Just my opinion.

He can take a beating. If Carwin would have been a little smarter he would've not punched himself out and left him vulnerable to a takedown.

I still think Carwin's better.

I don't like lesnar one bit and believe he did get jump to a belt he has only been in five fights and your already saying he is the best i don't think so. But i will say anyone not just lesnar ( he just made it worse by his first few showings at acting like  a heel wwe style)  who wins a belt so fast will get the same treatment, time will prove him to be a great champion. And as much as i hate the guy i respect him for that win with carwin because he beat him with skill that many including myself did not think he had. because he a beast of a guy and if he gets you on the ground not many will be able to force him off. which in a way is why carwin  lost he depended way to much on knocking lesnar out.

Honestly, I don't understand the hate. I respect Lesnar, even more after that Carwin fight. He's a true warrior, and has true heart.

Pffft Fedor, he won't even fight Overeem. To me Fedor does not matter, I don't care how good his record is, he is one of the best ever (even after the Werdun loss) but you can't expect Lesnar to get on his knees and beg for a fight. The dude will not man up, so screw him, let him fuck up his legacy. Strikeforce is a joke.

I'm really looking forward to the fight against Cain Velazquez, that dude is a beast, very well rounded. I'd also like to see a rematch against Carwin in the future, as long a he works on his cardio that could be a great fight, he almost got the win.

Brock makes the heavyweight division a lot of fun, I always look forward to his matches.
