I am The Biggest Loser

So, I’ve had it with myself.   I’m not in the same shape I was a few months ago let alone a year.   Working in DC made my body soft.   My active duty abs have turned to flab.   I guess not doing PT does that.   So now I’m going to change it.

I bought “The Biggest Loser” game.   I’m going to see how well it works.

My criteria for the last PT test I took (in the reserves) was 50 pushups, 62 sit-ups, and a 16:45 2 mile.   It passable,   barely.   I want 55 pushups**, 70 sit-up, and a 14:30 run.   I want to go from my size 33 Abercrombie to size 31, and I want to go from 200 to 190.

I’ll be changing my eating habits (alcohol once a week (and not in access), no more Starbucks, I’ll try for no soda).

I’ll be playing “The Biggest Loser” on challenging every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (for 50 minutes) and a 2-4 mile run every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.   Sunday, I rest.

30 days and I’ll see where I am.   I don’t need washboard abs (right away), but I do want to flatten my core.

**OK, the only way to get better at pushups is by doing more pushups. If it doesn’t offer them, they may not increase all that much.

@l4wd0g: Good for you and I hope it goes well.

Getting abs is actually really easy, as you already have them anyway. They are just covered by fat.

If you want to flatten your stomach, just do cardio and it will melt away. That's what I did and now I have a 6 pack without even doing a single crunch.

I applaud you, this is definitely a good idea. Your goals are feasible as well, so hopefully it won't take to long before you become the fit person you want to be.

(For my money though, EA Sports Active gives the best virtual workout, and from what I hear, EA Active 2 is somehow even better. You might want to consider picking it up, just my opinion.)

I assume this is that Kinect game? Do you have Your Shape fitness as well? That one looks really intense.

I was going to say the name of an exercise I heard was really good to do, but I forgot it, and while searching google I found "dips", but I then saw it wasn't the one I was looking for, and seeing the pictures of all the different dipping sauces made me hungry.

So good luck.

@l4wd0g: Why you dropping Starbucks?  Just get regular coffee with no added cream or sugar.  I mean if you're dropping it because it's horribly overpriced i'd understand that.

And I want a pony!

Good luck with it. I always thought it would be interesting to try buying something like that Kinetic fitness game and dedicating myself to working out with it for a few months and keep a daily blog about how it's going. Then I saw how much they were asking for a kinetic and said fuck that shit. Way too expensive. I'm not going to pay around $200+ for a fitness game.

Good luck, man. I'm doing Your Shape right now, though I'm not far enough into it to recommend it wholeheartedly yet. Still, keep at it, you'll get to where you want to be.

Boohoo you poor thing, a size 33.  Did you know the average men's size in America is 44?  Boohoo you need to drop a whole ten pounds.  You sound like a skinny girl calling herself fat.  :P

You seriously don't need something like The Biggest Loser for this.  Cut back on the booze, cut back (or out) on the soda and replace with water, and whamo!  Ten pounds, easy.

@melcene: If he wants to tone, that game will help him. And it has achievements. If someone wants to exercise, no matter their weight or size, ENCOURAGE THEM.

Hey, I think what the guy is doing is good... but I think its possible for even guys to have misconceptions of self-image based on what society says we should all look like.

That being said, I am interested in hearing how The Biggest Loser works out, especially when compared to some of the other Wii workout "games."

@melcene: Just because the average man in America is overweight doesn't make it any healthier to be overweight. If someone weighs 200 pounds because they're ripped then fair enough. But otherwise, whilst 200 pounds might not be morbidly obese, it is not healthy and it is not desirable. Good on the OP for trying to get in shape.

Depends on many factors such as height, body frame, etc., not to mention his BMI.  200 pounds might be completely healthy for him and not overweight.  But based on his post, that he is only looking to lose 10 lbs, that he was in great physical shape months or a year ago from active duty, I don't imagine that he's at an unhealthy or undesirable stage.

Like I said, I'm all for it.  It's just concerning that even men in America can have misconceptions of how perfect their bodies need to be.

Oh this sounds like fun! Let us know how you get on. I hope it works out for you.

I'd like something that meant I could work out indoors. I've been meaning to join the uni gym but well, I just haven't. I don't want to lose weight, I actually want to gain a bit. But I think exercise is good for things other than just losing weight!

@l4wd0g:
Don't "Try" for no more soda, DO no more soda.

I had an RC cola the other day, and I havn't had cola in a while. It just made me feel sooo heavy. I mean, sure, it was tasty, but I think I'll just stick with milk and water...

I'd be interested in a thread for people who are working on themselves, so we could maybe encourage each other and post updates? Any suggestions?

No offense, but if you've already been in PT and were in shape less than a year ago, why do you need to buy a cheap, cash-in Kincet game to help you. You obviously could do it without a poorly designed game, so why punish yourself?

@Kyelb22: I have a feeling that he didn't buy the game because he feels like he "needs" it, but rather because he wants to test its efficiency. I'll freely admit that I'm curious as to whether these games actually work or not.

I've always thought these games were for middle-aged women who wanted to find an easy way to loose a little fat, but they'll drop it after a few sessions with it. I always had a feeling that anyone who wanted to seriously work out would just hit the gym. I'd also like to see if these games have any merit as an alternative weight-loss solution.
