I'm surprised no one mentioned Tremors when watching these episodes That's literally all I could think of when they were sitting silent on the sand to avoid detection, hiding out on the car above the ground, or desperately clinging on the car as it was dragged into the sand. And it seems like the exact sort of campy bullshit that Jojo would draw inspiration from.
I feel like if Dan liked the mole boss and pogo-ing around on him as he dove back and forth, he would actually like Hollow Knight if he played any significant chunk of it.
Jeff's random aside on Neon White as compared to Sonic just triggered in my mind as a brilliant idea. Sonic sucks when you're going slow and sucks when you're exploring or tooling around, but when you build up speed they generally have to make things on rails because you otherwise wouldn't know where to go.
So just make a level-based time attack game all around getting up to speed and keeping that speed while bouncing off enemies, springs, etc. Make a game that is entirely about the only fun part of Sonic.
@humanity: I gave it a try on Game Pass and that was my same reaction. The first map took me over an hour to finish, and by the time I was done I'd already felt like I'd had enough of the game. Especially since I spent a quarter of the time sniping compared to same basic sneak up behind from grass and stealth kill that you can play in a dozen other games. Most of the parts of the map it didn't seem like sniping was even an option.
The few times when I found a good perch and took out a guy from long distance were fun though.
Late to this, but another great episode! I've was lucky to get my "debate" phase out on early Internet forum days and find absolutely no allure in engaging in the social media argument wars. Too many nights wasted arguing with people online only to realize that I'd accomplished nothing beyond making myself angry.
Played this about a half day yesterday and this game is great. The combat is middling, but everything about the world, exploration, and discovery is probably the best I've seen since Fez. The amount of times that the game cleverly reveals something that is hiding in plain sight in terms of areas, mechanics, items, etc. is just incredible.
That Direct was like a smart bomb to the nostalgia portions of my brain in terms of JRPGs. Chrono Cross, Earthbound, Live a Live, Xenoblade reveals all in one set is just insane to think about. Though really I'll be lucky if I could play through any of those in adult life - more likely the 48 Mario Kart courses, Switch Sports, and Kirby are going to dominate this household.
The one game I'll likely try to see through is Xenoblade Chronicles 3, just because those JRPGs manage to still stick with me. But seeing a number of returning voice actors / characters from XC2 really dampers my enthusiasm for that game. I liked a lot of XC2 in terms of worlds and systems, at least once those systems open up, but the main cast was very weak compared to XC1 (setting aside the gacha system and anime fanservice design nonsense that pervaded that entire game, which I hope gets entirely dropped).
A holiday dump treat! And it's fun to hear how literally everyone has had some variation on the "I took too much stimulants and now I might die" story for one reason or another.
