remote play works over the internet - doesn't have to be local.
you can change the settings to use bluetooth vs internet. Wired internet is much smoother and a way better experience than Bluetooth.
I was able to online co-op a local co-op shmup with a friend. They sign in as player 1 on the console and i would connect a controller locally and play as player 2. Performance was great, we had a few situations where they were able to carry levels as i was dead.
Also, with a PS4 Pro you get 1080p 60fps remote play. Very underrated feature, but you have to refresh the connection every hour.
