I'm ashamed of being really pedantic so I'm gonna hide it behind a spoiler.
When you are above 70km, you haven't escaped the planet's gravity- that gravity is what keeps you in orbit, and it extends out a long way. (For example for Earth, at the altitude of the ISS at about 400km, the gravity is about 90% of what it is on Earth's surface- weightlessness is due to the freefall, not because of lack of gravity.)
When you get below 70km, what's happening is that you're hitting the atmosphere, and the drag from the air (thin as it may be) is slowing you down. Since velocity is what keeps you in orbit, this will (eventually) drag you down.
I'm so happy y'all are playing KSP again, though- its honestly my favorite game of all time, and that's a hard spot to fill.
@havochq This was an amazing feature and I'd love to see more! (Also, I am a huge fan of your blue hair, and I wish my hair could keep any sort of color at all. I had purple hair and it lasted about a week before being gone entirely.)
Wait, who's that with Drew? That sounds like a Scottish accent, so I don't think it is Danny, but it could just be from it only being one word.
That's Scott Manley, an astronomer, Youtube personality, and KSP mega-expert. He's done hundreds of KSP videos (and explains the science behind them) and is by far the most well known person in the KSP community. He's also really entertaining!
@mub: well, by its very nature ROM is slow thanks to being a dialogue-focused adventure game. In comparison to Snatcher, though, it at least has things like "not having to investigate the same thing three times" and "lets you know when you've used a dialogue/gameplay option already" and "hints". Also a really good soundtrack.
