Great piece! Though not a huge Oddworld fan, I picked up Stranger's Wrath on Vita a year or so ago and had a tremendous time with it. You've articulated everything I loved so much about it, from the mechanical diversity to the ambitious narrative twists. For a 10-year old game, it holds up remarkably well.

Emily Is Away left me with a sense of reverse nostalgia, a reminder that our pasts are often uglier than we like to remember them. At the same time, it reinforced the fact that we all make mistakes, especially in our youth, and it is from those mistakes that we grow as people. Like you, I found Emily Is Away quite affecting in this and thought-provoking in this regard.

I'm really glad SOMA had a positive impact on you. Suffering similar issues, I know to some degree how easy it is to slip back into bad thought patterns and malignant habits.

I'll second the Life is Strange recommendation, as that had a massive impact on me. Make sure you play the whole way through, though, and like the others here have said, if you need anyone to talk to, I'd be more than happy to :)

Great read! It really does speak to the quality of 2015's output that each platform on its own delivered more than enough entertainment to make the year a success. (Thanks to Mario Maker and Splatoon, even the Wii U can claim that honour)

Yep, Australia in the 90s. How did this thing propagate so wildly without any idea of its origins?

You've summed up my feelings on Mad Max almost perfectly. I had a great time with it, though the story's conclusion meant I left on a sour note. Still, it was a whole lot more fun than I had expected given the critical reception. And it did a real good job of capturing the atmosphere of a wasted land. If only a studio like Obsidian were recruited to write the story...

Yup, it's great. A compelling mix of Twin Peaks and Fargo, wrapped in a simple yet fun puzzle game. It's too bad Telltale shifted completely away from more traditional adventure games like Puzzle Agent. I'd like more games like it, but there don't seem to be many out there.

@dkraytsberg: I agree. I found Episode 5 to be just as great as the preceding four, regardless of the fact that the finale decision is binary. That decision doesn't define the entire experience; every action Max took throughout the game altered the story equally, if not mechanically. I know a lot of people disagree, but for me the ending is not as important as everything leading up to it. Still valuable, but not the be-all and end-all.
