  •  I don't know if it's changed recently but here in Canberra there are more lax cannabis laws.    I think the current legislation is that the AFP can issue a Simple Cannabis Offence Notice (about a $100 fine) for possession of two cannabis plants (excluding all hydroponically or artficially grown cannabis plants) or up to 25g of dried cannabis for personal use only.   Canberra = Pot, Porn & Fireworks

The only three exceptions that I can think of off the top of my head where the second one was better than the first are Terminator 2, Aliens, and Fivel Goes West. Although I have talked to people who will say that Alien is better than the squeals because it's more horror and suspense. And I've heard people say Terminator ...

I understand how people who have seen the Saw movies can find them bad, because they are...for the most part.
From the second movie onwards, the focus has been on elaborate and disgusting ways to make people mutilate and/or kill themselves or others.

I don't know if everyone who hates these movies has seen the first one but there is little to no gore in it.
In my opinion this makes it so much better because it is more of a psychological thriller rather than a "torture porn" type of film.
It’s well acted and has many interesting twists that made it a great movie built around the emotions and mental state of the characters rather than shoving blood and guts in your face and then saying “oh, by the way there’s these people and stuff...”

So my recommendation is see the first movie and never watch a Saw movie ever again.

OK, so I live in Canberra and I went searching all around the city looking for a copy of persona 4 but had no success.
My house is around a place called Gungahlin so I ended up looking around there on the way back. I had a look around the EB there and asked if they had the game.
I was informed that EB in Belconnen (about 15mins away) had a copy so they offered to have it brought down to this store for me. I figured that since it wasn't that far away it should take a week at most so I tentatively agreed.

The next week I went back and asked about it, they told me that it wasn't here and could take another week or two (at most) to come in. I was a little annoyed but I just accepted it.

Two weeks later I went back and asked if it had come in yet...
...it had not...
Apparently the game is still in transit and won't be in until the next week. That is a total of FOUR WEEKS to bring in a game from Belconnen to Gungahlin only 15mins away. I could have crawled there and back by now.

I'm not neccessarily blaming EB for this long transit time, but I'm annoyed at them because if they had just told me it would be four weeks I would've said NO THANKS, I CAN DRIVE THERE IN 15 MINUTES!!!

Well I should have the game by this Friday so I'm happy for that.
Also the guy I talked to on Monday said if it isn't in by then he would go get it for me.
Apparently the guy who I originally talked to lost his job the week before, I wonder why...

Yesterday, Rock Band was finally anounced for Australia to come out on XBox 360, PS3, PS2 and Wii on November 7 this year.
Now, this is a start but I can't help but think that Rock Band 2 is out now...why can't we have that too?
They have said that they have improved the peripherals, why do he have to have these old instruments that the developers themselves say are inferior?
But I guess I should just be happy to hear that it is coming, especially after all that talk on the web about how JB HiFi and EB weren't going to stock Rock Band and only stock Guitar Hero: World Tour.
We'll just have to wait and see how that turns out.

So...
Rock Band 2 is out in the US...
...and us here in Australia don't even have the first Rock Band...
...what...the...HELL?!!!

Rock Band 2 is out in the US now and still no mention of a release for the first Rock Band in Australia.
At the moment I feel like I shouldn't buy Rock Band when it comes out because I should wait for Rock Band 2.
But if this trend of Rock Band delays continue it could be 2010 before we get Rock Band 2.
I also know we it come out it will cost about as much as a new console with the stupid expensive games prices we have here.
I probably wouldn't be so annoyed if they just gave a reason as to this delay of ALMOST A YEAR!!!

I might be okay if they gave us some Australia only songs (I know they won't but I want to dream).
Some Cold Chisel or something like that would be great, although singing like Barnesy will quickly destroy your throat.

For my first GB blog I want to talk about something that takes up a whole lot of my valuable time...TV.
No not that kind of TV, I mean that glowing box that sits in the corner of the room and provides all our mortal needs.
In particular, the childrens programmes on nowadays. Now I might be in the minority here but in my opinion, TV shows today are so much worse than when I was a kid.
I spent a short time today thinking about the shows I used to watch and enjoy, most of which were on the good ol' ABC.
Here's a list of some of my old favourites (Australian and elsewhere):

Ship to Shore
- Only the first series...Hermes rules
Round the Twist - Only the first couple of series..."Without my pants"
Lift Off - Mr Fish was always funny "No *blank* in the foyer"
Bananaman -  "When Eric eats a banana, an amazing transformation occurs"...it got me to eats bananas
Bananas in Pyjamas - To continue the banana related shows..."Trust me, I'm a rat"
Johnson and Friends - Toys coming to life has been done since but no one has done the talking waterbottle (Alfred) again
Tintin - I have watched it since, it's timeless
Superted - I still want to know his secret word
The Trap Door
Blinky Bill
- Longest intro song ever
Victor and Hugo: Bunglers in Crime
Widget the World Watcher
The Ferals/ Feral TV
  - "Are you Joe King?"
The Wayne Manifesto - I remember the rubber hammers and the one where Squocka eats the chicken and pretends they're witchetty grubs
Amazing!
- The maze run was the best
Vidiot - My older brother remembers this better than I do...Oh Eden Gaha, where are you now?
Art Attack - It was fun watching the big art attacks and guessing what they'd be
Couch Potato - Bring back Grant Piro, he was so funny

Anyway I could keep going but this are the ones that jump out at me. These shows were great and even taught us a few things. I have noticed over the past couple of years what kids shows have become and I have to say I'm not impressed.
What the hell is this Dora the Explorer crap? I can see the concept of the show and it's an okay idea but as an American show they do the whole Spanish thing. My 3 year old cousin came to me and spouted a bunch of phrases he'd learnt off this show and I didn't know what the hell he was talking about. I can see the use of teaching yanks these things but what use would it be to Aussie kids?
Another show I have a problem with is Sesame Street. What could I have against this show? Well the main thing is not their fault but they facilitate it...our kids are growing up watching this and are starting to talk like Americans. Yes it's nitpicking but they need to learn to speak properly. The other thing about this show is the Cookie Monster, he's started spouting stuff about how cookies are a "sometimes food"...what?...sometimes food?...he's the bloody "Cookie" Monster, if he only eats cookies sometimes then he might as well not be called the Cookie Monster and be called the "Healthy food and regular exercise with the occansional cookie as a treat when he's been good" Monster. Just another way to make up for shoddy parenting by expecting TV to educate their kids for them.
I'll stop before I get out of control...

Well these are American shows and I guess there could be something that gets lost on me as it comes over here. But what ever happend to good homemade Australian shows like I've listed above? There doesn't seem to be any that stand out as having that same charm as those early nineties shows. It seems that all they show now are American shows, even the number of British shows has gone down.

Now to wrap up. I think they need to bring back these classic shows as reruns, don't try to make a new series it doesn't work.
Bring back Australian TV...for our children's sake.
Wait...screw the kids, I want to see them.
