I've found a new love for Steam

I used to not like digital distribution.
Not because I prefer hard copies of games (even though I do) but because the internet providers in Australia give us very limited transfer limits and I didn't want to use it up.

A few months ago, after having Telstra as my service provider for years and having them try to charge me an extra $600 for going over my cap,  I decided I'd had enough. The next day I decided to drop Telstra and switch to an Internode plan.

The transfer limit/rate is about the same but the best thing about it is that all steam downloads from australian servers are uncapped and unmetered. This means I can download as much as I want from australian steam servers without it counting towards my transfer limit.
So with some simple programs to monitor which servers Steam connects to, I can finally download steam games without fear of going over my transfer limit.

So my point is I hate Internode because I no longer have an excuse to not spend heaps of money on Steam games.

Edit:
I should mention I used TCPView to see which servers Steam is connecting to and SteamWatch to set which ips it's allowed to connect to.

Congrats.  Hopefully you use the bandwith well and when SC2 hits, you can replace Steam with Battle.net.  *wink*

@Ineedaname:
I would too but first they'd need to actually have more than 2 Rockstar games in the Australian Steam service

Is this a feature Internode advertises?  I could see that being a good way to get customers.

@mosdl:
I don't think so, I just randomly stumbled onto it. I can't remember how, I think I searched for "Australian Steam" or something and I saw it mentioned in a forum.
Internode does have all the details on their website.
It would be a great way to get more customers but they have to advertise it more, I have a bunch of mates who would love to have this service.
I think Telstra Bigpond has GameArena servers unmetered but I'm not positive.

Internode has unmetered Australian steam servers so make sure you grab steamwatch from whirlpool.net.au or games.on.net also update the server list on it as its 2 years old at this point
If you don't use steamwatch you will be d/l from a overseas server that will use your cap

and yes bigpond will let you use the gamearena servers unmetered

yes, with the newest version of steamwatch edit the xml to include all the ips internode has labelled as free australian servers
