GOTY 2012

Its a short list of games I have played this year that I had to narrow down to my top 10. I started the GOTY list mostly because I wanted to make a list of all the games that came out this year and see if it was even ten. Counting the first episode of The Walking Dead, it worked out to 13 games according to the 2012 game releases wikipedia page.

Edit: My plan was to come back and add descriptions to each of the top 10 or at the very least the top 5...that did not happen. Better luck next time.

List items

  • Once upon a time, when I had limitless time and patience, my favorite genre of games was stealth. Years later I struggle to even boot up games that I know will require the trial and error and patience that I use to thrive on. Mark of the Ninja let me go back to the beautiful world of memorizing patrol routes and slipping through compounds without being spotted...I could also play a murderous exterminator of all life and all light sources. Whatever style of play I chose, Mark of the Ninja's precise controls and UI allowed me to know exactly what was happening in my surroundings and react without hesitation. Lastly, Mark of the Ninja's story was just enough to keep me curious but maybe not worth noting, with the exception of the ending, which is the reason I place it as number one on my list.

  • Guild Wars 2 is a world with so much to do, you could probably play it forever if you truly wanted to see every piece of content ever produced. Any evening I drop into its world quickly turns from "I'll just ______ for a bit and then call it a night" to marching down a checklist one small bullet point at a time hours later. For purely the amount of time I have spent in Guild Wars 2, I had to place it somewhere in my top three.
