  • "While I found the stories in these games to be vacuous crap, that is just a matter of taste (in that I have some)." I find that rather rich coming from someone with an Ichi the Killer avatar.

  • While Persona 4 certainly had some pretty fantastical elements, what stood out about that game for me was how much of it was how decidedly un-epic compared to most RPGs. A personal gripe of mine re: RPGs is how empathic characters are usually sacrificed for bloated, grandiose plots. Men with ruffled shirts and steam-powered cities talking about the existence of God or something. And they always end up feeling a ...

  • Storytelling should be important to games, but it shouldn't be important to every game. For the people in this thread asking how narrative-conscious gamers survived the 8 and 16 bit eras, I think many just made up their own stories. I know I did, and I don't think this was some personal peculiarity. Story is important because some of us like spending time with a game rather than killing time ...

  • I wound up finding out about pretty much all major plot spoilers thanks to stray comments on the internet, but honestly it didn't really ruin anything. Sure, the mystery kept the plot moving, but the characters made that game...rich, honest, emphatic, and definitely missed enough to have me play it all over again.Still, though, while I suppose it can't be helped, people should learn to watch their mouths a bit ...

Masterful depiction of a man's total demise, one of the most pessimistic outlook on life ever. 3. The Battle of Algiers; Pentagon officials apparently viewed this film as part of preparation for the ...

  • Hey team,I'd like to brave Persona 4 in Japanese. But well, I'm completely at a loss as to how. For those of you who play imports, how do you go about it? Mod-chips? Buying another system (would that even be worth it at this point?)? I've only recently begun playing games again after a long hiatus, so forgive me if I'm shockingly dim about PS2 know-how.Cheers

  • I have nothing but love for all those characters. I even liked hating Mitsuo, Morooka, Hanako, etc. I suppose if I had to pick favorites, I'd go with Chie, Dojima, Nanako, and Naoto, but really, I couldn't ask for a better cast of characters. Persona 4 had a sentimental do-rama feel to it, for sure, but despite cartoonish flourishes of aidoru, child detectives, and a talking teddy bear, I don't ...

  • Also, didn't Capcom make a foray into the world of 3D fighting with those Street Fighter EX games? And weren't those catastrophic flops?I'm not much of a diehard fighting game fan, so your complaint is likely lost on me, but I tend to think that, you don't fuck with the science, as it were. Yeah, Street Fighter has a good deal of pedigree and cultural cachet and all that going ...
