Yeah, it's kinda sad because I have a great respect for , say, Jason's and Vinny's opinion but yet they were ( especially Jason) absolutely Shut Down when it came to nominating stuff. It's kinda no surprise though, listen to any of the recent podcasts and you'll be hard pressed to come away with anything other than Brad's and Jeff's opinions on things....

I think the "Internet Famous" thing has more to do with the enjoyment you get out of your levels After you share them. Everyone here has friends, sure, it's just that the fact that your enjoyment of this game is more dependent on how much you get your friends to enjoy your piddling around in a level editor.
It's fun, sure, but "Best game of the year" fun? Way Way Way to dependent on the people you share things with. But if you have a web site to share your codes with....

Yup. And that's the point. Up until now it was a top ten list that I would look down and buy depending on the description. I'd know the people behind the list ( THE reason for GB) and adjust accordingly.
Now? It's best "web-site traffic earner". Seriously... Mario Maker? An 8-bit level editor with the shittiest excuse for singleplayer? Multiple Multiplayer-only games? Single-note indie games?
I'm sorry all, but this was the worst GOTY discussion in the site's history. Nobody had actually finished the majority of the games put on this year's lists, despite being paid to talk about video games. Not even the high profile ones. It killed any chance for an intelligent debate. Everyone was so jaded and dismissive, just look how Witcher 3 was treated in the discussion."
Sorry to say too, but I have to agree. SMM as Game of the Year? As a standalone game, without any kind of youtube/video presence SMM is bare bones at best. As a creation tool Kerbal beats its grandparents and as a straight up 'Game' it's nothing we haven't seen before. I'm seriously looking at this list and going " I don't know Why this exists".
I know it's 'personal' and all, but I think this is the first time I've been on this site ( even with all the wrestling stuff) and said " Yeah, I don't agree.... and I can't even wrap my mind around how I Would agree... ". I don't mean that to argue up a specific game or anything , but it's seriously like the awards went from "This is a good game" to "This was a good game for the site".
Maybe I'm just kinda jittery from the SMM discusion, but damn am I questioning why I come here anymore.
