My favourite classic games (oldest to newest)

More will be added soon, as I stated these are MY favourite classic games, and I define classic as a game that I consider timeless and enjoyable, regardless of actual age.

List items

  • Sonic the Hedgehog was my role model back in the day despite having the average personality of a Sega Genesis character (none whatsoever), he was cool, he was fast, he was everything I wanted to be when I was 5 years old.

Many of my earliest memories were spent playing Sonic 1 and 2, but undoubtedly 2 was the superior in nearly every way (except for that stupid 2nd level with the underwater part).

Whilst many considered the downfall of Sonic to be the step to 3D (the old school type, not the $5000 headache type) I actually quite enjoyed the Sonic Adventure series, particularly the first one, maybe I was just young, who knows.

Sonic Heroes was a piece of crap though.

  • Bubsy was a great game, probably one of the best Sega games I can recall playing.

Bubsy had everything in it, collectibles, level variety, great animation and it just looked great in general, features that would not seem impressive today but really stood out when all we had to compare it too was the graphics on the original NES.

The phrase "What could possibly go wrong?" will forever be etched into my memory.

  • This game is awesome, I cant believe it seems like I am the only person in the entire world who played it, perhaps I just thought anthropomorphic animals with attitude problems were cool, either way I remember sitting down and writing the code for the snowboarding level down with my aunty, I think I spilt orange juice on the cartridge and ruined it, a real shame.

  • This game was THE platformer game, I never really cared for Mario much at all but Donkey Kong really kicked ass in every way imaginable, a real classic.

That barrel canyon level is f*&ked though

  • Skipping forward a bit, holy crap, I loved this game, it surpassed the original in nearly every possible way and will forever be cemented in the golden days of platforming games.

I still remember not being able to finish it for two years because of the underwater level (the green room with the octopus was the scariest thing I had ever seen).
