@phobosanomaly: I feel like it's like trying to have your cake and eat it too. I am rather bored with expected first person military shooter style and would like to see a game where you spend a long time crawling through the muck and corpses of no mans land clutching your revolver and grenades as machine gun fire flies over head. I'd like to see someone do to these FPS games what the Dark Souls series did to fantasy RPGs: slow things down and make them brutal and difficult. Personally I feel if they aren't making WWI extremely depressing and almost unpleasant to play, they might as well not use the setting at all.

@heaveninblack: As a mounted machine gun for a tripod set up like a Maxim. It has two independent thumb triggers for each barrel. There is almost no way to walk around with this thing and fire it accurately without a mount. Sub-machine gun versions of the gun were developed, but not until after the war. Here's a video of a gun nerd talking about it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAsH0fVAoxc

@thesteve19: It says in the article that it was a mounted machine gun and looking at it it would be impractical, if not impossible, to use like a sub-machine gun. But that's besides the point. In WWI machine guns, especially sub-machine guns, where a rarity and your rank and file infantrymen (who died in the millions) would be carrying bolt action rifles. This was a vastly different type of warfare. So when I see the multiplayer maps with dozens of guys carrying rare Belgian rifles that were unreliable and were only made for testing purposes, but are somehow functioning like a modern assault rifle in the game I feel like they've cheated the premise of the game.

@zaldar If all you want is another Battlefield game with a fresh coat of WWI paint on it that is fine. I haven't been a Battlefield fan since 2142, and I hoped that this would be more of a departure from the usual style of game-play, and the stuff I've seen so far hasn't swayed me.

First few seconds of campaign game play I have seen and it features the player character holding an obscene sub-machine gun. There goes my hope that at least the campaign would handle the setting accurately or with respect to history.

As a fan of Verdun this does not look like it will scratch that itch. I mean every faction has a sub-machine gun and semi auto rifle? I mean someone might think that's a good idea for the purposes of balancing, but why go with this setting if you're only going to do it half way? Don't get me started on the anachronistic weapons ugh.

I can see why a lot of publishers decided to clean up their footage since then. One could make a super cut of just the low frame rate clips and game play fuck ups and make their games look really bad.

Is it just me or does it seem like Jason is trying really hard to find a game he can beat Jeff in?
