Worth noting for people coming to this game that GT Sport and the online for this game is meant to be an 'iracing lite' sort of system. Which is great because iRacing is horrifically overpriced unless you're fully dedicated to it. GT Sport and this game has skill rating and sportmanship ratings which decide which lobbies you go to (elo style system). It has a penalty system they constantly change and update (for better or worse) that will dish out time penalties for intentional contact or cutting the track, etc. There are custom lobbies for whatever but in the real "sport" online mode - your actions will have consequences. Real racing is a non-contact sport and it's emulated here. The whole "rubbing is racing" is a nascar exclusive thing. GT Sport was very successful in this attempt (8 million copies sold) and had a great online and e-sport community. I'd recommend checking out Super GT and his videos if you want to learn more about it.

I also tried re-playing this on the PC but it seemed like such a nightmare with mods. The xbox version though (on xbox series s) is near perfect however. Would recommend that for a much simpler experience. Thanks for this though, love this game.

This was great fun! Loved Jan's intimate knowledge of the series and teaching people like me who only play pokemon extremely casually what the other side is like. Well done Jan for carrying a whole video solo - seems like it would be intimidating but you were flawless!

That was hilarious. Abby is a trooper. I probably would have ripped the headset off ten minutes in! Love this series, keep it up.

I totally agree with your comment and think you've put it very well. I don't blame GB for having interests elsewhere. I was always sort of hoping that someone would take the mantle of being interested in racing games - even on a surface level. I was hoping Drew would be that guy, but that never seemed to pan out. These quick looks are a little disappointing. It's just rehashing of Jeff's general dislike of these types of games and then a few minutes of bumper car racing and a bunch of menus. It would be nice to see a full few races/a race weekend be done by someone who cares about the idea of careful and tactical racing. Like I say, even on a surface level.

Personally I think the more structured progression is a massive boon to this entry. The previous games have always thrown the most exotic cars at you right off the bat so you have no real incentive to go back to your beat up Civic, but often those are the most fun and thoughtful - as you inch past your opponent slowly on a straightaway, made possible due to you taking the previous corner just a tiny bit better.

I'll repeat I don't blame anyone though, but I was hoping for a little bit more depth of insight rather than just why the loot-boxes are bad.

3-star review incoming. Yay.

It's a real bummer that the only GB staff member who even acknowledges the racing genre is Jeff, and he clearly favors arcade racers and tends to nitpick the Forza games to death. In fairness, Jeff at least admits that he doesn't have an interest in actual motorsports, but that also kinda makes him inherently unenthused about things the people buying this game likely are. That's not great, because he's predisposed to not get excited about hopping in virtual versions of championship cars and lapping Le Mans or other iconic raceways, which is kind of the whole point of this.

Great segment, really enjoyed this. Good questions and honest, informative, answers. It really shows that the industry doesn't need to be clouded in mystery to be effective. You can treat your audience like adults and they will appreciate you for it. I hope it continues and spreads.
