As a fan of science-fiction and storytelling in games, I thoroughly enjoyed Mass Effect 2's personal appeal via impactful decision making and consistent tone. The music and visuals are of the highest quality despite the density of the game. All this, coupled with some solid shooting mechanics, made Mass Effect 2 my favorite game this year.

The unsung platformer of 2010 that is, dare I say, better than Super Meat Boy. Mind-bending platforming and INSANE difficulty coupled with old-school 8-bit graphics and killer tunes make this the best downloadable game of the year.

Simply put, the narrative and thematics of Alan Wake are pretty interesting, especially in a market that relies so much on blockbuster/multiplayer experiences. Alan Wake is a brave, spectacular game that at times may be clunky, but engages throughout. Of note is the television serial structure of the game. Alan Wake is split into episodes with recaps and cliffhangers capping each miniature narrative arc. Any fans of Twin Peaks, Stephen King, or horror in general must check this game out. Please...we need season two!

Though I tire of the "cutscene-ride-shoot/chase-cutscene" formula of open-world Rockstar games, RDR had enough dynamic events and interactions to immerse me in a sandbox like never before. Westerns are a largely untouched genre in video games, but Rockstar sure brought the old frontier to life with a bang.

We've all heard how Super Meat Boy made difficulty in gameplay fun again, but what about the art and humor? A great looking game that softens the blows of challenge with laughs, Super Meat Boy deserves to be in everyone's top ten.

The puzzling gameplay, beautiful art, and interesting narrative and thematics all come together into the most haunting game I've played in a while. Limbo is in a narrative area more games need to explore.

I played WoW for a month or two three years ago when I worked as a dishwasher at a local cafe (night shifts...ugh). It was a grind. More so than my monotonous job. Cataclysm changed this. Everything is streamlined, making the journey from 1 to 85 a fun, ever-changing quest, especially with friends.

This game never fails to get my blood pumping. The keyboard has been AMAZING as well. This is the definitive Rock Band. Rock Band 3 is the ultimate drunk party game. Please, PLEASE buy.

Telltale can be very "hit-or-miss" with their adventure titles. This particular episode however proved charming, challenging, and consistently so throughout. A big nod to Telltale in general for keeping the adventure game alive.
