The 9 in 2009 stands for 90's

I have a feeling that this year is most going to remind me of the 90's being a teenager growing up. Why? Well, I'm thinking (and hoping) that I'll finally see resurrections of some of Franchises/Universes i enjoyed playing then.

1. Dawn of War II

Okay, so this didn't come out in the 90's, however, I've played all four entries thoroughly and am a big fan of Relic and what they have done with the RTS Genre (Homeworld is still one of my favorites, hey, there's ya 90's) . Not being a fan of the 40K universe before the first game, I've been itching to play as the Tyranids since doing a little research on the universe. This as well as improved graphics (Soulstorm was looking a bit old) and enhanced gameplay it looks like it will suck a lot of my spare time. I'm also hoping that they will do the same with adding of races and units with subsequent expansions.

2. Mafia II

Okay, again not the 90's, but its been awhile since the first one.  Mafia is simply is one of my favorite games, and I'm hoping that this will be as good. The thing about Mafia that made it special was its Character. Its setup in 20's - 30's isn't something that's not done often in gaming then (especially without any super-natural stuff) , and it drew from Godfather/Goodfellas, but it was also so good in capturing a world with a mature narrative (even people walking down the street felt like they were from the 30's with the head down, one hand in the pocket, the other swinging). If they are able to bring that level of character and take it to the 50's, and current generation consoles, I'll be a happy gangster.

3. Street Fighter IV

Ok, here's 90's. Im not a good fighting game player by any means, and there weren't a lot of arcades were i live but my peers at school knew Street Fighter and the pose for a fireball. This, with my enthused interest in playing fighting games again with SC4 & MKvsDC, I can see myself wasting time trying to be good at this game.

4. Duke Nukem Forever

Will it come out. Who knows. But say it does, I'm actually excited to play this game (not just for academic interest either). Why? Its simple. Thats why. Its simple. I like my simple run of the mill, well polished shooters that don't try to be anything but that. Just shoot stuff and get to the end of the level, maybe with a few simple puzzles (at least that what I'm hoping it is). These were the s*** in the 90's and have been able to fill the void since then with the likes of Serious Sam, Quake 4, even Prey. But what better IP to recreate that satisfaction than the Duke of the Nineties himself (for me at least).

5. Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty

An obvious answer. Again might not come out this year, but surely soon after. Again, as many, wasted many hours and days playing this (and its editor) in the late 90's and hope to do the same soon. Please.

6. Bioshock 2

A far as I am concerned all they need to do is expand the city of Rapture and I'd be happy. Im hoping, chonologically, it happens after the original for some reason and you see Andrew Ryan again (he can use Vita Chambers remember). Maybe Rapture's thriving again? I can't wait to find out.

Man i've waffled here....
