My alignment in the platforms

Note that my PC alignment is with deep understanding and acceptance of all platforms and the separate (but sometimes heavily overlapping) audiences/demographics that they target and serve.  It only indicates the platform that I prefer.

I am no fanboy and in fact I am rarely happy to see a game as an exclusive, especially third party ones as I believe that games should be made to reach as many people as possible.  However I do believe that sometimes if one has a creative vision sometimes it can only be realistically achieved if it's development is focused on one platform; as Crysis was to PC with it's ambitious and revolutionary (yet understandably power hungry) graphics engine; Metal Gear Solid 4 was to PS3 with it's console specific graphics, in game content (and product placement) and self referential humor, plus massive 50GB size that they had to squeeze it in; and Halo 3 with it's enormous focus on integrating and embodying the Xbox Live Experience.

Every platform is meant for different people.  To make a simple and general overlying example, PCs are excellent for people who wish to tweak and customize their rig and gaming experience plus enjoy virtually unlimited backward compatibility and support for their old game library for years to come.  PS3s and Xbox 360s are for people who do not want to spend time tweaking and customizing their experience and just want the game to run, they have greater simplicity and efficiency (plus less crap they have to deal with) and cheaper (but overall less functional and more specialized) hardware which performs relatively close to average PC graphics, but give up choices in customizability and backward compatibility.  Wii is for people who in addition to or instead of the other more traditional gaming experiences want an innovative control scheme, or that is also more family friendly and conducive to younger kids and novice gamers.  I just wanted to put my stance on all of this out on the table because it is natural and healthy for people who read opinions that I post to question my motives and loyalties and I want people to be able to know where I stand in the overall scheme of things.

Systems that I own and actively play:

  1. PC
  2. PS3
  3. Xbox 360
  4. PSP
