I have the same feeling almost as you. I got Dragon Age at christmas, but because I had also got Assassin's Creed 2, It kept me occupied until maround Februrary, which was when I bought another game. I was playing Dragon Age occasionly as a warrior, and wasn't spending much time with it, and was just rushing thorugh. I started a new character just this week though, after a couple months hiatus, playing as a dual-wielding elvish rogue, and I'm getting much more interested in the lore and story and the complexity of combat.
As for your questions, I'm pretty sure you can use the same dude in Awekening, haven't bought it yet, and I don't think they've released too much on Dragon Age 2 yet, but I'm not sure.
