For videos where there is a youtube version available, if you press the play button too quickly on loading a page, you end up with the GB-hosted video playing in the background behind the youtube embedded version. This has been happening for at least a couple of years in both Firefox (my home desktop W10) and Chrome (my work laptop W7). I've tested this with all add-ons disabled.

If you played Darkfall in the past and are curious about New Dawn, the devs are doing a free stress test From November 15 to November 29.

They've made some brilliant changes but there is still a lot of work to be done on the game so if you're new to Darkfall I recommend waiting a few more months to try it in a more polished state. There will definitely be more free periods, including just before live launch when the intention is for a huge server war to claim holdings that will carry over to launch.

Rise of Agon is more hardcore PvP focused. The devs bungled their beta launch by exposing some source code, and seem less professional in general in my opinion.

New Dawn is more about realising the original vision of the game by improving the sandbox elements. For example they are revisiting ideas like regional banking and racial alignment. I expect the community will be a lot less toxic.

Both are streamlining the grind and interface etc.

Anyone checking out the New Dawn or Rise of Agon? Not sure they warrant their own wiki entries yet since they're very close to the original game, more so than Unholy Wars which has recently been shut down.

There's a good stream of somebody playing with one of the devs on New Dawn here:

I'm 'Raff Raff' on the EU server. I played the original from 2009-2011. DFUW is a big improvement in a lot of ways and I'm enjoying it a lot. It's much more streamlined in some much-needed ways. They had to strip out quite a lot of things and lock down the features/content quite severely to get it out the door so there are some quite big gaps in the game at the moment (like the markets and resource monoliths, meaning that cities are prohibitively expensive to build right now), but the overhauled aspects have been worth it so far.

Character progression in particular is much less stressful without the skill usage system they had before (you now spend general purpose skill points on anything you want). You don't have to run around casting spells constantly and people don't leave their PCs on all night macroing.

About 60% of the assets are old and the world is basically 'remixed', so it's a bit cheeky of them to call it 'a whole new game', but there's still absolutely nothing out there to compete with what this game is doing so I find it difficult to get upset about that.

If Darkfall 1.0 were still running, I'd have no problem with them charging $40 for Unholy Wars. Unfortunately, it's not. I also could have sworn reading somewhere that existing subscribers wouldn't have to repurchase the game. Of course, it's Aventurine - everything is subject to change at any time and with no notice. Now, I'm still very interested in Darkfall - I'll probably end up buying it anyways out of curiosity...but I'm just not happy with how the company is treating its previous player base.

I agree that it's a somewhat shitty situation but I doubt there would be any game at all any other way given how few people were playing DF1 by the end. I paid the same for my DFUW account as I would have paid to resub to DF1, so in that sense existing subscribers did get DFUW for free. It does suck if you missed the 5 month window to claim it though.

I've been trying for a while to get this image removed. I've had a submission rejected and one accepted but it still didn't work.

The default image for this guy (who composed the music for the first Panzer Dragoon game) is of a different person with the same name. It's bothering me because the guy in the picture died in 2010.

I've uploaded another photo (the only one I can find that is definitely the right guy) but it needs switching to be the default.

Thanks!
