@vinny I recommend trying rune factory 4 they ported it to switch from the 3ds a while back rf5 is supposed to be out this year as well. It's made by the story of seasons people has all the farming stuff but is also set in a fantasy world and has more rpg elements and monster fighting. You also farm monsters instead of normal animals and can take them out adventuring with you or your friends/spouses/child. I'm pretty sure from what I remember the series has always had mining so maybe that's where it all started but I've not played all the story of seasons games so could be off. I'ts a pretty weird series also probably my favourite series and I think you'd like it

did you max out any of the passives gives you a permanent version of the passive even when not selected and if you select one you've maxed you double the effect I only figured that out pretty late through my new game plus playthrough

Jeff Have you tried stormland or asgards wrath those are two pretty big story vr games that came out recently for rift. We won't need omni directional treadmills once facebook can read our minds as zuckerburg promised was coming in the last oculus connect.

@paperplane: I've really been enjoying what I've played of Stormland. Pistol whip and Asgard's wrath are also pretty great imo. I think both Stormland and Asgard's wrath could do with a VRodeo.

@kaname: Really looking forward to runefactory 4 switch version as II didnt play it on 3ds. And really excited for 5 when that gets localised. I see what you are saying about the licensed stuff and would much prefer not having that but I havent played a game to scratch my runefactory/stardew itch in ages and haven't really found a clone that does everything I want. I will probably get this to tide me over till the runefactorys come

@indigozeal: Yeah I upgraded the fireball second spell you get to max really early and tore through pretty much the entire game with just that then towards the very end and on new game plus switched it to an upgraded daggers (the one you get from the ninjas). on new game plus i max upgraded a few passives, which gives you a permanent buff. So was even more op once I realised that I upgraded most of the passives. you still get the buff from the equipped passive as well so it doubles that effect. But I'm obssesive and did far more grinding than I imagine Vinny will ever do on this series.

I did read that the developers were only allowed to put a boss in if they could beat it with a basic dagger.

@twrite: Ehhhhh, even then, the combat looks really mashy and all the attacks look equally effective. It almost reminds me of Magicka, where you can combine magic into all kinds of stuff but who the fuck cares because it mostly does about the same damage. At least Magicka let you teamkill and resurrect teammates easily, and generally just goof around.

Everything about this game looks competently done but unremarkable. I don't think "there's a variety of spells and relics" is enough of a hook, when that's what every roguelite has these days. I just don't quite see that extra level of style or difficulty or whatever that sets games like Dead Cells or Enter the Gungeon apart.

The spells are all pretty different have a different feel to them and synergize differently with each other and the various relics. Finding starting sets you like that gives you ideas of what things to grab throughout the run to improve your build its a massive part of the game. I get what you are saying about magicka but it really is nothing like that. There are also clear indications of when you are doing more or less damage with the different elements as Abby in this was getting a lot of down arrows on her damage numbers when she was attacking the earth enemies with earth spells.

I had the opposite reaction she did to it when playing I've been playing it non stop over the last few days and went from being terrible to learning the enemy patterns and spells/items that I like and beating the final boss for the first time last night. For me this game is absolutely fantastic favourite thing I've played in a while. Bit disappointed that this quick look didn't show a lot of what I love about this game but not everyone's opinions are the same and it always feels a bit like that when someone doesn't like the thing you do. In some ways its reminiscent of binding of issac but with for me a much better aesthetic.

Is it just me or would this be an absolutely perfect game to offer a VR option? Have the Spy operated by M+K and put the Sniper into VR goggles and you have a perfect way to do co-op on a single machine with no screen-peeking guaranteed.

I thought the same, but I'd probably do it the other way around -- put the spy in VR, as it'd be cool to look around those environments, and picking out fine cues from a distance as the sniper probably wouldn't be easy in VR.

I also think VR would be great as an option for a second screen for local play but think it would definitely have to be locked to sniper as most vr movement as the spy would make the spy stand out far too easily
