Well, Hi

I suppose the first order of business should be an introduction.

To save anyone who's interested the trouble of clicking my profile I'll just regurgitate what I wrote there in here:  I'm 33, married, 2 kids, lifetime gamer.  My IRL responsibilities demand most of my attention so I don't have much time for gaming.  As a result I'm really picky about what I play, at the moment what little time I have is spent on either my DS or Wii (mostly DS).  I'll buy just about anything Nintendo puts out but not out of rabid fanboyism.  It's just that over the the past 25+ years I've been playing games they very, very rarely disappoint in their first-party offerings.  I don't have anything against MS or Sony, I've owned a 360 and PS2 in the past, but since I'm limited in playing time there isn't much point to adding a third console to my life at the moment.

I love 2D platforming (when it's done well), adventure games with puzzles and the occasional suspense/horror title though so many of them just feel like epigones of Resident Evil.  I'm not a fan of FPS or other "blow crap up"-centric titles.  I don't have anything against violence, it's just that I don't like walking the same ground twice and for the most part I feel the FPS genre is just played out.  At least for me.  I like things that offer me something different than I've ever played before, two titles that I've really loved over the past year were Zack & Wiki and Professor LaytonZ&W isn't necessarily different, I guess, but it is a throwback to the old point-and-click adventure days of my youth and no one has made a good one in years.

All time favorite games in no particular order:

  • Conker's Bad Fur Day (I know I said no particular order, but this is my all-time #1 favorite game)
  • Eternal Darkness
  • Super Mario Kart
  • Super Metroid
  • Portal

Currently playing:
  • LOZ: Phantom Hourglass
  • Brawl
  • Mario Kart Wii
  • Kirby's Adventure (I missed it the first time around so I picked it up on the VC, it's fantastic!)

Anticipating:
  • Wario Land Shake It
  • Animal Crossing Wii (I have to keep an eye on this, if it's too much like WW I'll skip it)
  • DC Universe Online (Please, Marvel, make something like this)

I also love to talk about music and movies but I've rambled on enough for a first post.  My main reason for having a blog at IGN was to have conversations about a gamut of topics with people of similar interests.  I don't like message boards or the message board mentality that every topic of discussion must be turned into a ridiculous flame war.  In my view of the world it is much harder, and consequently more desirable, to be civil and articulate your point of view without insulting those who disagree.  I'll probably start here by perusing the blogs and sending out friend requests.  If you happen to stumble across this please feel free to add me to your friends (if you want, that is).  I'm looking forward to getting to know people here and maybe establishing a second home.
