Relentless GOTY 2014

This year has been a mixed bag for some due to certain high-profiled games not working on launch day or not at all. However, this year truly did not disappoint us with a plethora of releases.

But I digress, here are my top ten games of this year!

List items

  • I have played this game for literally 140 Hours and haven't finished this game. It isn't a better game than Origins but Inquisition has vastly improved its tropes from its previous disappointing game, Dragon Age 2.

  • Everything from the characters, the premise, the gameplay and the music is charming even though the puzzle sections aren't really that challenging. It's premise setting on the first World War is a sound idea.

  • Dreamfall: The Longest Journey is undoubtedly, my favourite game of all time and ever since that, I had been waiting a sequel. Now with Dreamfall Chapters being crowdfunded, my dreams came true. From the first few hours that I had played, the gameplay definitively derives elements from other adventure games such as Telltale's Walking Dead. The dialog system has a feature called Balance which basically is like the karma system from other adventure games whether you decide to be violent or peaceful.

  • Ever since e3, I was disappointed and did not want another alternate historic FPS like Homefront or that god-awful, Turning Point: Fall of Liberty. I was indeed my disappointment of the show but when I decided to give it another chance, I was wrong. Unlike the previous game, The New Order feels like they've enhanced the gameplay tropes of the classic Wolfenstein into a modern contemporary shooter that doesn't go far from its ass unlike Call of Duty.

  • The remastered version just looks damn impressive.

  • The Stick of Truth just shows that comedic writing in games could be hilarious and not awkward and static.

  • Although I had a better time playing Bastion, Transistor has a unique edge to it.

  • The game has a slow start with abundance of tutorials but then ramps up with quest grinding and Animal Crossing-like professions.

  • Ever since e3, this game has been on my GOTY list due to its premise. I really like the premise of having a person getting killed in the first few minutes of the game and having you playing detective.. a ghost detective for the whole game. It's like LA Noire albeit less challenging.

  • One of the overlooked games of this year, Tropico 5 improves the gameplay from previous predecessors. The UI looks much more cleaner, the new gameplay features are impressive and El Presidente is just plain hilarious.
