Nothing gets my board game snobbery going like Catan. I've got a large group of friends who swear by it regardless of the fact that there is basically 1 winning strategy and a bunch of luck. Moreover, they refuse to play anything else even though there are 100s of other Euro games that take elements of Catan and do them a million times better. Listen, like what you want to like, I won't judge you for it, but come on, the world of board games is a large one and people do themselves a disservice for not checking out more games!

Base Catan is the Monopoly of Euro games. I'm not above playing Catan every so often but I won't touch it without at least 2 expansions in play.

I played the fanslation of this and it was a good game buuuuut Tales of Phantasia is hands down the best jrpg, with the best combat, best story, best characters, best graphics, and your characters equip every item they see so all armor and weapons shows up on the char models. It's Very very good game.

The combat is essentially a 2d fighting game with all your characters and there's on the battlefield. It's so flashy and fun especially since you got a traditional fantasy party with healer tank and dps.

It's the only game I ever stayed up for 36 hours to play from start to finish, I ended up with like 92 hours in game time but I used fast forward to get through transitions and grind.

The crazy thing is Tales of Phantasia is the last mode 7 SNES game. It sucked we never got it in the states because it still is one of the most beloved jrpgs that doesn't get as much love in America. The fan translation is good too.

I really hope we get something like this for the old tales games but it doesn't seem likely.

You are speaking my language. The only version of Tales of Phantasia I have played is the shit GBA port, but even then the game's greatness was enough that ToP is one of my top 5 favorite games. I would love a remastered version so I could play that gem in all its glory. To this day Arche and Rhea's storyline remains one of the most moving and impactful stories I have ever experienced in a video game.

Great podcast that taught me I should have been watching Dragon Ball years ago. If they plan to continue I feel like original Dragon Ball is the right move, but I can also see needing a palette cleanser after how long DBZ is. My vote is for Gurren Lagan, let's go all in on over the top anime insanity while also learning to be better people through teamwork and believing in ourselves and our friends.

From a level design and mechanics perspective this looks like a PS2 game, not in a great throwback way but in an outdated way. If it didn't have the Darksiders name this could have been a 360 launch title. It's a shame this game is so basic.

It's crazy to think that the N Gage came out just about a year before the DS and PSP. It just seems like such a bizarre otherworldly device. It also brings back the question of what if Sony had made a PSP phone in 2005?

@darukaru: I'm so torn on whether Assassin's Creed is better as an annual or biannual series. On the one hand, back in the days of the Ezio trilogy and through the Kenway trilogy I loved that the story was progressing every year and once AC3 came out I was really into how the series narrative was basically progressing in real time. That was a fun way to tell a story and I looked forward to getting to check back in on one of my favorite series every fall. On the other hand, after the Ezio trilogy the series quality was very up and down and Unity almost broke me on the series completely. I really don't get the narrative experience I used to love anymore as the modern day story has just been spinning its wheels for years. The 2 year break between Syndicate and Origins was definitely good for the series and I'm glad that AC is taking next year off because a 2019 game would almost surely be terrible. I wish AC could be like it used to be, delivering good to great games and meaningful plot development every year, but at this point I don't believe that is possible. I can begrudgingly admit that a biannual schedule is probably for the best and accept that the series will never again have a meaningful modern day plot if it means no more stinkers.

I was a friend of Jenkins. When the geth attacked on Eden Prime he drew their fire and spared me. I take his gun, party leader's right.

It would be really funny if they added Tau to this game and included a diplomacy system for them featuring units from the water caste that every other player could just completely ignore. It would be great if they found some clever way of letting you send out diplomat units and rewarding you when other players gunned the poor fools down.
