Still Annoying, Still Great 0

When The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is working right, it is a terrific game. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that I've had a type of fun playing this game that I haven't had playing games since I was a little kid.The problem is, that sometimes Zelda still thinks I'm a little kid, which can be rather frustrating, since babying the player really isn't a fundamental part of Zelda. I'm an old man now (by Internet standards, at least), but I was a single-digit kid when the first Zelda came out. ...

Short but Sweet 0

Portal 2 is too short.  Not in the "wow this game really didn't give me what I paid for" way but in the "wow this was so fun, I really want to do a whole lot more!!"The puzzles weren't particularly difficult.  Arguably, they were easier than the most difficult puzzles from the first game.  But unlike the first game, they were all fun.  There were puzzles in the first Portal that were challenging mainly because they pissed me off and required precision reflexes- or death-and another load screen. ...

From the Civ Rev World 0

I have never played a full Civ game before Civ Rev.  So the incredibly complex world that appeals to many Civ fans was not what drew me to give Civ 5 a go.  It was the enjoyment of the "one more turn" aspect with the desire for something a little complex.  Civ 5 has given me all that, and I've barely scratched its surface.  There is still so much to learn, so much to understand, but I'm not daunted, I'm able to still keep my head above water just with everything I learned from Civ Rev, but I kno...

A Game My Dad Would Love 0

While I don't think it matches Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, it is definitely one of Rockstar's best games.    When I first heard media dudes talk about this game while it was in development, it really caught my ear, and it ended up being one of the few times a game like that didn't disappoint.    It's just as fun to ride a donkey through the woods and spend hours hunting animals as it is to play through the story.  For the most part.  It seems like each character arc you complete (if you are n...

Change is Good 0

Just like the last version released (Final Fantasy XII), I seem to be the only person I know who is completely satisfied with the latest version of Final Fantasy on the market.   Both versions are departures from the "core" Final Fantasy experience.  And yet, to me, they both managed to take things that I have enjoyed from Final Fantasy, and emphasize them, while diminishing things that I didn't enjoy or grew tired of.    Specifically, Final Fantasy XIII really fits MY playstyle when it comes to...

Not Swept Away in the Rain, But Still Fun 0

The concept of Heavy Rain is great.  The controls are interesting and innovative and the idea of every action counting boggles my mind.  This game took adventure games that I grew up with as a child and brought them into the 21st century.  The story is interesting and it would not be farfetched to see this on a movie screen or on a television series.  The graphics were beautiful and I was constantly impressed by how great everything looked.  I think it has at least the potential for broad appeal...

Steps In The Right Direction 0

Smackdown vs Raw 2007-2010 have been been pretty worthless beyond a rental.  Even as a huge wrestling fan, I found the games to be ultimately disappointing.   Smackdown vs Raw 2010 is a step in the right direction.   Lots of complaints about previous versions were addressed and there are some new good ideas.  But, in the end there is still room to improve. The game is being promoted for its CAW system.  It's not quite as different as some of the previews would have you believe, but, it is defini...
