  • Red Dead Redemption reinvigorated my love for video games. I hadn't been playing videogames as much until this game came out and drew me in for hours at a time with it's amazing characters, setting and story, also it didn't hurt that the gameplay was so tight and visceral.

  • I really hope there are more games like Heavy Rain in the future. Though the story may have had some pretty gaping plot holes when I look back at it, but while playing it I was too shocked and involved with the way this game presented itself and the choices it gave you.

  • I know some people were disappointed in the "final chapter" of Kratos' Trilogy. I for one was not, it was bigger, prettier, and gorier then past installments and that's all I wanted.

  • I love Mass Effect 2, perhaps not as much as everyone else. I think it's a tad overrated. I wish there were more game altering decisions and I'm not a huge fan of the combat, but this game is exceedingly grand in scope. I can't think of any other games that attempts to create such a cohesive universe.

  • No game this year better encapsulated the feeling of being a badass who can improvise his way out of anything. I've always loved the splinter cell series and was wary of the direction this game was taking but in the end I think it payed off big time.

  • HD Legend of Zelda. Vigil games managed to capture the feeling of a Zelda game better then perhaps even the newer Zelda games.

  • I enjoyed the campaign in Black Ops more then previous entries in the series due to its cohesive story and remarkable setpieces. Also there's the multiplayer which can feel cheap at times, but the smoothness of the controls and the feeling of the shooting make it a joy to play whether your dying repeatedly from remote controlled cars or raining down death from a helicopter. Worst online community though.

  • I've always enjoyed the Halo series, but they never seemed as good as everyone made them out to be. Halo Reach didn't completely blow me away, but it had the best campaign since the first Halo. And the multiplayer was the first in the series that really clicked with me.

  • It was a tossup between this and Starcraft II. In the end I chose Civ V because of its extremely addictive gameplay, but mostly I chose it because Starcraft II scares me.

  • Mesmerizing.
