When I was deep into getting the Dark Souls 3 platinum after launch, I was placing many a summon sign outside of Dragonslayer Armour. One day I was thrown into a game with a few solid players, one of whom was named rudds. It was probably one of the most fun summons I've had. Still wonder whether it was actually Brad, as GB didn't have that much DS3 content to compare the character or name against.

Regardless of what's happened the last 9 years (holy hell), I'm absolutely amazed that Valve have managed to culture an environment or setup agreements whereby no one has just spilled the beans. From a quick search we see there have been tiny off-hand quotes from the co-creator of CS after he left, and unsubstantiated statements made by anonymous Reddit users.

Valve's hiring procedure either picks up extremely loyal people, they promise them a pot of gold after a period of time, or their internal assets are very well isolated and controlled to minimise the material that could be leaked.

I suppose there's another option; Half-Life 3 was shelved years ago and the only thing people can do is create anonymous accounts to tell us...

Related to the new chat that was put into public test earlier today.

The current character limit for chat text input is 255 chars. If I were to input 0-255 ASCII characters, the message appears correctly in the message listing, and connection remains stable.

If I input 254 ASCII characters, but input one non-alphanumeric unicode character, i.e. 'ӆ', I experience the following: -

- The chat portion of the client page seems to halt updating, and a connection issue error message is displayed.
- The chat portion of the client page renders blank, then reappears after a second or so, and the chat reloads.
- Any messages after this are duplicated, presumably because of the websocket bug I heard @alexisg describe during the dev chat stream.

I've also been able to replicate this issue by inputting 43 non-alphanumeric unicode characters, but any less than this works fine.

No idea if you're using typed arrays, but some form of cumulative value for characters is causing client side crashes, as there seems to be different numbers of ASCII/Unicode alphanumeric characters that play nice with some number of non-alphanumeric Unicode characters, but certain amounts cause the above symptoms.

Thanks,
Satori

I don't have solid numbers or analytics, but whilst watching the Titanfall feature going on at the moment, and UPFs over the past couple weeks, I've seen noticeably poor quality in the streamed video with the HD option selected in the new player. I'm streaming from England.

It also sometimes looks as if I'm peering through fog, as the contrast is pretty poor. I've also attached an old shot of Jeff on UPF which I see as an example of what things used to look like live (image 4).

The shots were captured with default PNG settings in mspaint, whilst the video was fullscreen on a 1920x1200 monitor. My internet connection is stable, and receives on average 16Mb downstream. I'm able to view several american based streams (and twitch) at quality noticeably better than GB's, just to confirm I'm not having local issues.

The quality will vary, as you can see between shots 1, 2 and then 3. With the quality in the Jeff shot, I wouldn't notice any change throughout the entire show unless I had local internet slowdown. Even between the best shot of the current player, 3, and the old shot of jeff in 4, there's a big difference. It's hard to convey from stills, like most video issues.

Appreciate that this post might seem picky to some users, but I'm just reporting a noticeable drop in quality here. Not sure how things are changing with the switch to the new player, and whether others are seeing the same sort of quality out of the streams. Rorie pointed me to the bug reporting board when I asked about it. Thanks for the great content/web development over the years guys.

Ridiculously atmospheric game. Replaying it as I type as I have a hankering.
