@jaqen_hghar: I think it can still be quite fun if you can just find one friend who has the game to trade levels with. Especially if you can watch each other play either streaming or in person. Me and a friend did this in MM1 and it was a blast. Sure it was cool when other people liked or commented on a level, but the real fun was watching my friend play. Unfortunately, they passed away and I haven't been able to really muster up the will to make a level in MM2 yet. At least there is still a lot to do playing other peoples levels. There are some really creative, fun levels out there.
The ability to draft for free might get me to buy this. Not sure if I am into how it plays though. Also, I think that pack opening animation was kind of weak.
@nethlem: Thanks so much for this. I think I always confused Freelancer and Freespace. However, Freelancer-style games are way more my cup of tea than the rigid mission structure ones. I think every time I looked at Freespace thinking I should give it a go again with some mods I realized it wasn't the game I remembered, but couldn't remember the original game and promptly forgot about the whole thing only for the cycle to repeat again. Looking forward to checking out how Freelancer holds up with mods. Also, the gameplay is rather different, but I recommend Space Rangers 2: Reboot quite a bit.
