Reasons to Sell Your Old Video Games

I’m an avid video gamer and have been since a very young age. Ever since my parents bought me my first Sega Megadrive, with it’s 16-bit graphics and huge, cartridge games, I was hooked to gaming and immersing myself into a fantasy world.

Every so often though it’s good to have a bit of a clear-out of your old games. Not sure about you but my bedroom just wouldn’t be able to handle much more than I can already fit on my shelves! Unfortunately I’m a bit of a nostalgia-freak, so when it comes to the plunge and actually deciding which games to get rid of, I end up being incredibly picky and choosy.

At the end of the day though there are many benefits to getting rid of your old video games. Some of these include:

You’ve got to the end of it

The ultimate aim of all games that we buy is to get to the end of it. And once the game has been completed, is there any need to keep hold of it?

Every so often I try to think about selling my old games, especially the ones I have finished fairly recently, and consider whether it’s likely I will play through them again. If not then it’s time to sell them on and cash in on their worth while they are still half-relevant to the modern-day gamer.

You didn’t really play it very much

We’ve all done this - either we’ve read a review in a magazine that sold a game to us really well, or we’ve been in a shop and fancied an impulse-purchase, only for it to not turn out as good as we’d hoped.

There’s only so long that you can tell yourself that you will “get round to playing it” until it really starts to gather dust on your shelves. Sometimes it’s just better to cut your losses, sell it on and make space in your room for something else you are actually going to play once in a while.

You want to fund a new purchase

This over anything should persuade you to sell your old games, as the money you can potentially raise from getting rid of your older stuff can be put towards funding the purchase of the new Call of Duty or Fifa game for example.

There are many ways to sell games, especially online, and not all of them cost you money! It’s well worth having a search around to see what suits you best.

You need to have a clear-out

My bedroom used to be really cluttered with the stuff I basically hoarded, but once you finally get rid of your old things, such as your games, you really do start to feel better about yourself.

A clutter-free, tidy room will help you feel less stressed, but if you still live at home it will also keep your parents happy and not wanting to scream at you for living in a mess all the time!
