Purchased the RB3 Pro Cymbals Today

I traded in a few PS2 games that were lying around today, along with some DS games that my wife no longer wanted.  I pre-ordered RB3 and picked up the Pro Cymbals that are running $40.  I've been using the RB2 cymbals for about a year now, and I really liked them.  However, one broke, so I figured that I might as well get the updated set.  After playing for a bit, I can tell you that the new cymbals are awesome!  First off, they are ridiculously quiet.  They make practically no noise at all, which is a welcome change from the plastic-y thump that the old ones had.  Also, the 30 degree tilt on them definitely helps keep me from accidentally getting caught up underneath them (a particular problem that I have on fast songs).  So far, I haven't noticed any cross talk or dropped notes.  I'm definitely looking forward to trying Pro Mode with these.

Speaking of which, I'm interested to see how the hi-hat rolls will be charted for RB3.  I suspect that they'll just stick with the standard red as hi-hat, yellow as snare that they've done in the past.  However, I'd like to see if they chart Pro Mode as yellow hi-hat roll, with the snare being the yellow pad.  Guess we'll see in a week!

That is usually the case, however some songs (Everlong comes to mind) switch up the positioning of the snare and high hat for more comfortable hand movement. It's all about the sticking. "
Yeah. that's what I meant.  For the songs where the hi-hat is on the red pad, with the snare on the yellow, I wonder if RB3 will change that in pro mode to yellow cymbal for hi-hat, yellow pad for snare.  I tend to doubt it, but it would be nice. "
I really hope they chart it that way too. I am kind of worried it might not be the case, since with the three pack pro cymbals there was also a red screw top along with the yellow/blue/green ones.I guess we'll have to wait four more excruciating days to find out.

But like you said, there really is no way that a yellow pad/yellow cymbal set up couldn't work aside from distinguishing pad notes from cymbal notes if they are the same color. Of course, if you don't have a problem playing on expert to begin with, I would imagine it wouldn't be that big of a problem for most anyway.

Yeah. that's what I meant.  For the songs where the hi-hat is on the red pad with the snare on the yellow (Everlong, Orange Crush, A Clean Shot, etc.), I wonder if RB3 will change that in pro mode to yellow cymbal for hi-hat, yellow pad for snare.  I tend to doubt it, but it would be nice.

Also, thanks for the link to the coin trick, Wolf.  I'm going to get a new set and if it doesn't work I'll go with the mod.

They always chart fast hi-hat rolls to the red pad though, even if you have cymbals attached. I hope they change that in RB3, because it's pretty lame.

Sadness will sear next week when I receive RB3 and my Keyboard in the mail, only to find out I have to return the Keys to Mad Catz :|

Not sure if anyone mentioned this to you yet, but I too had this problem, making pretty much any song in RB2 unplayable. There is fortunately an easy fix where you are basically decreasing the sensitivity on the cymbals which means no more double hits!

Here is the link to the tutorial. I did this myself and it took about a half hour to do, is incredibly easy to perform, and best of all will cost you an entire three cents. BE WARNED though, this mod will void your warranty, but I think it was well worth it as now my cymbals are tight as ever and even those fast rolls register without fault.

Rockband 3 is going to kick some serious ass, especially with the inclusion of a high hat pedal/double bass pedal. RB3 is finally going to use that damn mysterious black jack that hasn't been used for anything until now!

@skrutop: Haha yeah I have a friend though whose little brother got really good at the drums in Rock Band, and he recently got a drum set, and it seems like the transition was pretty natural for him. I think Rock Band though can help with rhythm, timing and feel, and while it is in no way the same as real drums it is a pretty good facsimile.

:P.  No, I don't.  I've tried to play stuff on my brother's drum set, but it's a totally different beast.  It's the difference between running a marathon versus running on a treadmill :).

Fair warning time: After a few days, I'm getting nothing but double-hits from one of my pads, and the other one double-hits every so often.  I'm going to take them back and get a new set.  I e-mailed Mad Catz three days ago and haven't gotten a response from them.

Thirded. No way I wanna buy the full set, particularly as I'm not a regular plastic drummer.

@JJWeatherman:  After playing some more, I feel like there's a little more bounce on them, too.  Otherwise they're basically the same.

@jakob187: Yeah, for the regular set, not the Ions

I'm assuming that these are not the ones for the Ion kit?

Good to hear. My RB2 kit has been faithful to me (aside from the yellow pad peeling), despite being unforgiving with it.

Now, if only the darned things were for sale over here (UK) :(. I do not want to have to buy a whole new drum set just for pro mode. Bah.

@skrutop: So are the only differences the angle and the reduced noise?

@Three0neFive: I'm pretty sure no info on the "real" guitar has been released yet. And which drums are you talking about? I'm pretty sure they're not actually making drums for RB3. There's the RB2 drums and IONs though.

Haven't really been keeping up with RB3, but after playing RB2 at a friend's for the first time in over a year, I'm really pumped. Basically I have some questions for anyone in the know.

Any word on release date/price for that Fender pro guitar? I've been self-learning guitar for about a year now, and this could really help me improve/get a better grasp on the concepts.
Any place in Canada I can preorder the drums? I've checked Amazon, EB and the usual suspects, but none of the Canadian sites even list it.
