One Word Review: Auspice 0

It even says it right there, the series' first RPG. Let's all be honest with each other, the Sonic franchise has been stagnant over the last twenty years or so. Even those of us who grew up Nintendo kids had some respect for Sonic during his Genesis onto the scene, but once Sonic was brought into the 3D world he was never rebounded. The sense of speed has never been the same and, for those of us who are casual fans, the tireless campaigning on Sega's part to convince us that the Sonic universe i...

One Word Review: Fathomable 0

The gang is all here...and then some. Everything about Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars is easily accessible to the player. The RPG gameplay is easy to understand for the uninitiated. The story is easier to get than that fat pimpled girl you asked out a week before prom. Even the idea of the game just makes sense; a collaboration between Nintendo and the powerhouse Japanese studio that produced numerous hits on their Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The marriage between Squaresoft (...

One Word Review: Shit-faced 0

All of the characters that matter. Poker Night 2 is a lot like going out with the intentions to have the craziest night of one's life...by oneself. Poker Night 2 sounds like fun but, when you roll over in the morning and look at it's glitched out save screen, you will have a few regrets. There are good points to having a crazy night out. But, is it worth that terrible memory that follows you from that day forward. The first part of the night starts out fine. You run into a few friends at a hipste...

One Word Review: Time-warp 0

Breath of Death VII transported me back to a time when I could push a button on my console and the game would start. There was a point during my playtime where I walked downstairs, at my Mom's house and grabbed a pop out of her fridge and returned to my game and I really felt like I had taken a jump back in time. This game brings back memories of renting games from the local video store. It reminds me of a time when I didn't think about getting laid 24/7. It reminds me of a time when JRPGs were ...

PSN - Full Game Trial 0

I played the Full Game Trial of this game on PSN. My opinions are only about the first hour of the game.Hell's Highway is my first foray into the Brothers in Arms series. The story seems to be woven deeply into the wider Brothers in Arms series. The pistol in the game will come to play a large role, I believe. Along with the deep story, the visuals help to make the interplay between the characters much more detailed and believable then almost any other first person shooter set in WWII.With only ...

Over the Top 0

Saint Row: The Third is at once a breath of fresh air and a return to form for the open world/sandbox genre of games. The craziness of the open world genre fizzled out after the Hot Coffee incident, but it seems to have been rekindled with SR:TT. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, while a departure from the the previous games, was never as outrageous as SR:TT. But, that outrageousness is what makes this game unique and keeps the player coming back to find out what kind of crazy shit has yet to come....

One Word Review - Juvenescence 0

There is a childish tone throughout Fat Princess. A tone slathered in sticky, syrupy blood. Disguised under a sugary sweet skin and outlined in cel-shading, Fat Princess challenges the way we look at standard capture-the-flag and deathmatch game types. Every part of the game is manicured to the n degree to be adolescently simple. The single player game isn't anything more than a tutorial for those who can't read the text tutorial. Once finally online it is easy to join matches and learn the basic...

One Word Review - Trick 0

Each trick in Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers is a tactical puzzle torn between offense and defense. When the player first starts Magic the Gathering: DofP the decks that are available set up fights in a very predictable RPG way; water and fire, black and white magic, etc. But, continuing down the path of the campaign opens more powerful cards and multiples of helpful spells. Magic knows the trick to keep players, in this case, glued to the screen. The trick to this game is learni...

One Word Review - Evolved 0

When Combat Evolved came to the Xbox people saw it as a new beginning for console FPS games. No longer would Goldeneye 007 be the end all be all of console FPS games. The first Halo game showed us what a good FPS game could handle like. It also gave us an Orson Scott Card-like story that many people still hold in very high regard. It was the one game that moved us more towards console dominance. The second game, unlike most game sequels, kept everything that was good and added other things to ma...

One Word Review: Jocular 0

Box Art Costume Quest hits you with fun from the first moment. The game continues forward almost lackadaisically, never trying to overload the player with too many choices. This makes the game something easy to best in just a night or two. The story is easy to follow. The game mechanics are easy to perform. The game in total is easy, but without any of the negative baggage that goes along with that word. The game’s gleefully colorful art style is reminiscent of Psychonauts, another Double Fin...

One Word Review - Forceful 0

One Word Review:  Justice League Heroes   Review: Forceful   I rushed through this game like a bullet train in Japan. It wasn’t too short. My play through was roughly around 8 hours or so. The other reviewers that I read had the game around the same play time. The game just held me pretty well for the time that it spent in my hands. I played the game on the PSP, which may have helped with its accessibility; I was able to take the game on the bus, to the coffee shop, or even to the bathroom. So, ...

One Word Review: Grimy 0

One Word Review: Red Dead RedemptionReview: GrimyGrimy is a word that describes the look of the world in Red Dead Redemption, but it also describes the disgusting characters in the game. Every moment of RDR, the player is aware of the dirt, dust, mud, blood, and disease. It splatters the screen when you skin an animal, it’s stirred up while riding your horse, and it even is present on the whores who work at the saloons in the game. The characters are just as fleshed out as the environment in RDR....

One Word Review - Bubbly 0

One Word Review: Kirby's Dream LandReview: Bubbly(This is a new style of review that I am going to be doing called "one-word reviews." I am going to choose one word that exemplifies each games mechanics, story, music, or any other information that the game conveys to me, as a player. I don't want to assign any score to the game, so if I must I suppose I will give every game a 4 star. The "score" is really the word that I have chosen, being speakers of English we should all be able to pull some p...
