Don't get a onewheel unless you actually want to get good at using those. They are really for fun, not for travel. They do travel just fine, but they're mostly made the way they are for fun, not to be practical or easy to use.

Life is too short to not do something that gives you fulfillment. I'm in a fine job, but deeply unfulfilled. I just took a leap and accepted a job in a completely different area of mental health and it completely changed my attitude. Sounds like a refreshing change is in order.

Unemployment/ social services is tough work. I know. I'm in that field. In reading your post it sounds like you are really leaning toward finding new work.

Spruce up your linkedin account and let people know you're looking. Try something different. Take a leap.

Hi all,

My apologies if this isn't the most efficient way to find out this info.

This is what I have:

MSI B85M-G43 LGA 1150 Intel B85 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX High Performance CF Intel Motherboard

Intel Core i5-4460 Haswell Quad-Core 3.2 GHz

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3

GTX 950 2 GB

EVGA 500 80+ WHITE 500W Power Supply

WD Blue 1TB Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM

I want to be able to max out setting on 1080p intense games (ala new Call of duty, Assassin's Creed, Metro) and get 60fps on very close. Not interested in 1440p. No streaming either or going for VR

So, I'm looking to get a gtx 1660ti in a week or so. That should be a huge FPS boost. I hear the Ryzen CPUs are a good investment now compared to AMD.

1. Which Ryzen CPU would be good for 1080p maxing out settings? (as budget friendly as possible)

2. What budget-friendly motherboard is a solid choice? (Micro ATX) I'm not interested in lighting or anything cosmetic.

3. Do I need to get a new version of windows 10 with a new motherboard, or is it as straightforward as connecting the hard drive to the new CPU? I'm trying to Frankenstein it together with the old hard drive if possible.

4. If I just get an SSD, is there an idiot-proof way to clone the HDD to a new SSD?

5. If I do upgrade the motherboard and CPU, will I need a new PSU?

Thanks for the info!

I don't mean to be a negative nancy here, just want to provide realistic expectations. If a dentist examines your teeth and believes there are dental issues that have developed due to poor oral care, it's their job to have that discussion with you. A good dentist will do it in a caring way and take into consideration mental health issues, but there will be a discussion along those lines if appropriate. Going to the dentist is never fun, but the positive health impacts are definitely worth it.

This. Especially the last sentence.

I try to keep it to one 'focus' game. Right now that's Elder Scrolls Online. I'll also dabble in some roguelites and deckbuilder games that don't require too much mental energy.

I'm considering upgrading my PC. It's getting very out of date. I call it "The Potato masher." I'm not really sure which component would help the most. The main purpose of my PC is to play games, but with new games it can struggle to run them on low-medium settings with 60fps. I'm looking to stick with 1080p and nothing VR. I'm not looking to play every game max settings with a ridiculous frame rate either. Any suggestions for someone who doesn't keep up with latest trends would be appreciated.

I can't figure it out. I'm connected to the same network on both devices in the exact corner of the room and the tablet gets 26 mbps/ 11 mbps and the desktop gets 500mbps/250mbps at best according to google speedtest. The tablet is a Lenovo Tab 2 A10 and the desktop is a custom built i5-4460, 8 gb ram about two years old. The network is 802.11n hotspot. The desktop wireless adapter is a Realtek Realtek RTL8192CU Wireless LAN 802.11n USB 2.0 Network Adapter.

IPv4: Internet

IPv6: No Network access

Speed changes between 48.0mbps

I don't know much about internet lingo, just looking to get a better connection on my pc. What should I do?

I have a regular HDD and it seems fine. What I'm curious about is how to incorporate a SSD with it. If I did end up purchasing one, how do you move the OS to it? Do you move your game library over as well? Should anything stay on the HDD? How does this all work?
