Madden 09 Set Release 08/12/08

Brett Favre in front page Madden NFL 09 game box. You can't ask for more then Brett on the Cover. NFL games series by EA already entered 20 years in production also include simple to handle game technique, online gaming upgrade and realistic viewing like real tournament.

EA is also making a slight control change to this year's football duo (NCAA Football 09 included). In Madden 09 it's being called Total Control Animations and one of its features is bestowing a newfound sense of control when using the left analog stick. Now you'll no longer need to wiggle the right stick in conjunction with the left to pull off a juke. Now a simple left stick maneuver will be mimicked on-screen and should allow the runner to be more evasive than in previous years. We got to test the system for ourselves with NCAA Football 09, but for those impressions you'll just have to check back next week.

There are other little additions that were revealed to us as well like realistic field goal nets, the ability to return a short field goal a la Devin Hester, a new lighting system, and smart routes for receivers. We were told that Madden 09 houses a whopping 85 new features, though we're still waiting on the full list from EA Sports. Rest assured, as soon as we get the skinny, so too shall you

Wrap Up of E3 2008

Well E3 2008 has officially ended now we can take in all of upcoming announcements from the big three Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft. Here are my thoughts about the conference and good and bad of each Company.

Nintendo

Good

Let’s begin with announcements made for the Wii. Animal Crossing: Cityfolk looked magnificent and will utilize Nintendo Wiispeak Voice Communication.  Nintendo has thrown its hat into the music ring with a demo of the exciting looking Wii Music.  Another game announced with a Nintendo device was a sequel to the very fun Wii Sports, Wii Sports: ResortResort will use the new Wii MotionPlus device, an add-on that will allow for more precise WiiMote controls.  A surprise announcement that was revealed for the DS was that Rockstar will be bringing its flagship franchise to Nintendo with Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, bringing some much needed credibility to mature gamers who see the system as being for kids only.

Bad

Nintendo’s conference was a lot more laid back than usual with no major announcements aside from Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars and the new Wii accessories.  The company disclosed no news on their flagship franchises, Mario and Zelda, only that the teams are hard at work on new titles.  Considering that games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero will be utilizing downloadable content for the Wii there were no discussions of a storage device and not a whisper about WiiWare.

Sony

The Good
PS3 will have a price drop as the the 80 GB will retail for $399.99 USD in September 2008.  Playstation Home was teased again bringing together the Playstation Network with games, content, and social networking.  The company also announced that the PSN video delivery service would begin later (midnight) after the company’s conference with content ready for download including movies and TV shows straight to their PS3 and then copy it to a PSP.  The company has already formed partnerships with many studios including, Sony Pictures, MGM, Lion’s Gate, and Warner Bros. Another feature on the PS3 will be the ability to capture footage from your game and send it to YouTube.  A few of the games announced included Resistance Retribution , Star Wars Force Unleashed, and Madden NFL 09, all for the PSP.  Among the game highlights revealed for the PS3 included Little Big Planet, a God of War 3 teaser trailer, DC Universe Online, and Infamous .  DC Universe Online will allow players to create their own supervillian or superhero and fight alongside or against the heroes and villains of the DC Universe.  While MAG, an MMO, can have up to 256 players with 8 players squads as the players character grow through three levels to become the best soldier to lead their squad..

The Bad
After months and months hearing about the avatars and trophies to rival the achievements list of Xbox Live, Home still hasn’t been released and there still is no tentative release date for it.  Sony has done all it can to continue being the best with its all-around mainstream media approach to the video service and exclusivity with third party vendors but now that appears to be dwindling with Final Fantasy XIII also being released for Xbox 360.  Finally, Sony lacked a truly huge announcement when it came to new games. Sure, they gave us a teaser of God of War 3 but, in the grand scheme of what Sony usually brings to E3, that is nothing.  Maybe because E3 came on the heels of the success of Metal Gear Solid 4 they didn’t feel the need to release any spectacular news or rumors about upcoming titles.

Microsoft

The Good
Now because of all the news, announcements, and demos Microsoft rolled out, I might leave out a few things, but that’s why the internet created links.  Microsoft had an impressive amount of intel at the conference that excited and surprised many. Fallout 3 was presented with impressive gameplay footage and an interesting teaser trailer.  The game will include downloadable content, but no details were given exactly what that would entail.  A playable demo of Resident Evil 5 was shown with the team-up mechanic on display and news that there would be online co-op gameplay included with the title.  A very detailed and cinematic trailer of Fable 2 was shown for the audience with a detailed environment. It was revealed that the game will have co-op gameplay online, the ability to get married, have a home, and make real decisions that affect everything in the world.  Gears of War inpressive demo, with the announcement that a new mode multiplayer was announced, as Horde will allow up to five players to take on horde after horde of enemies.

The Xbox 360’s main screen will no longer consist of simple sliding screens on its user interface, as the user interface will be getting a major overhaul.  No longer will gamercards be the norm as Microsoft has announced Avatars, channels and “live party” for chats and games.  Xbox Live Primetime was also announced and will be coming to system this fall.  Its a cross between web 2.0 and videogames.  The first release for Primetime will be 1 vs. 100.  Other Xbox live goodies that will eventually arrive include, Geometry Wars 2: Retro Evolved, Galaga Legions, and Portal: Still Alive will come with new achievements and levels this fall.  The company also announced a new television and movie partners with NBC and Universal, so now you can see every Scrubs or Monk episode you may have missed.  Aside from the new partnership with NBC, Microsoft will also have a new media partnership with Netflix.  Debuting this fall, Live subscribers with a Netflix subscription will be able to access its entire library through their 360 console for no additional cost.   Finally, the big shocker of the entire conference is that Final Fantasy XII has a new home on the 360.  Gone is the exclusivity of Sony and welcome the possibility of more Square Enix (cough*Kingdom Hearts 3*cough) or other third party games making their way to the Xbox 360.  The fellas at Microsoft even threw it in Sony’s face that they lost it.

The Bad

I only wish Microsoft didn't keep Bungie quiet about there upcomming game they are working. Inside sources believe they pulled it seconds before Microsoft Keynote.

The Winner:
Microsoft by a wide margin.  Microsoft clearly came into this conference to prove that it could not only be a video game entertainment system with a heavy load of upcoming games but also a mass-appeal, mainstream entity that will pull in hardcore gamers and the casual family crowd

19 Reasons Why I'm so excited about GOW 2 Multiplayer

  • Ten person, 5v5 online multiplayer.

  • Yes, Gears of War 2 will have a Halo-style matchmaking system.
  • There will be respawning multiplayer modes, but the focus is still towards traditional non-respawn gaming.
  • Multiplayer game modes:

  • - "Guardian" game mode: A remade version of Gears' Assassination game mode where the objective is still to kill the other team's leader, but players keep respawning as long as their leader is alive. Opponents' leader will be marked on the HUD to keep the game moving along.

  • - "Wingman" game mode: You and a buddy team up, sharing a single character model in this five teams of two game mode.

  • - "Meatflag" game mode: A CTF-style mode where the "flag" is actually an AI-controlled player who'll wander the map and attempt to kill anyone who gets near. To "capture" him, you'll have to first down, then escort him as a meatshield all the way back to your base, all while your opponents are trying to kill you and shoot at the "flag". Because, if shot at enough, your meatshield flag will break free, go berserk and deal out the pain. Respawning will be featured in this game mode as well as stats for the amount of kills the AI-controlled flag dished out

  • Multiplayer maps:
    - Around a dozen maps will be included on disc.
    - "Gridlock": A remake of the Gridlock we've all come to know and love, but taken over by vegetation, old age and now featuring a beautiful sun-setting glow.
    - "River": Symmetrical map featuring a house and a sniper tower separated by (you guessed it) a river.
    - "Security": A long, thin map with "verandas" on each side that are sealed off by red laser bars. In the center of the map is a button to deactivate all the security for roughly 20 seconds.

  • Fishing moves when an enemy is downed:
    - "X" button: Traditional curb-stomp.
    - "B" button: Melee attack that will be weapon specific. (Longshot sniper rifle will be used as a golf club of death.)
    - "Y" button: Flips your opponent over and let's you punch in their face ... UFC style.
    - "A" button: Use your enemy as a "meatshield" that limits your weapon choice to a pistol. And, yes, your meatshield can and will disintegrate in your arms after taking on enemy fire. If they don't get ripped apart, you can always dispense of your meatshield with a good old snap of the neck.

  • Random weapon location respawns will be used, but only for certain weapons not including power weapons, pistols or grenades.
  • All weapons have a variable amount of "stopping power" that'll slow down an opponent's running or diving abilities.

  • Weapons:
    - Players will have the option of spawning with the chainsaw-equipped Lancer or the newly modified Locust Hammerburst.
    - "Scorcher" weapon: A flamethrower that we're promised will produce some uber-realistic fire.
    - "Medusa" weapon: A new Locust pistol that is said to be extremely powerful, pumping out five to six rounds per shot downing enemies in a few shots. Said to be the perfect compliment to a meatshielder.
    - "Hammerburst" weapon: Changed a bit, now requiring players to pump the trigger as fast as possible (think Halo 3's Carbine). Though, recoil will increase the faster it's fired.

  • Grenades:
    - Can be stuck to people, walls, the floor and any other surface to be used as a makeshift proximity mine.
    - As before, players will spawn with one smoke grenade.
    - Smoke grenade: Now carries a "stun" effect that "ragdolls any player within their blast radius".
    - Poison gas grenade: Spews poison that will kill anyone who lingers in its poisonous cloud.

  • Chainsaw Duels:
    - Whoever does the quickest amount of "B" button tapping will be victorious.
    - Your teammates can help give you an edge in the duel by shooting the opponent which will give you the upper hand on the "B" button mini-game.
    - No duel will occur if a player is chainsawed from behind. Instead, the sexy "butt to head" chainsaw animation will kick in giving the attacker and instant kill.
  • The cover system has been subtly reworked, where players' gun and body sit tighter to cover making it harder for your enemies to get an attacking angle.
  • Bullet shields described as "metal bucklers" that can be carried as indestructible cover. The trade-off being that only a pistol can be wielded and movement is slowed dramatically. One benefit of the bullet shield is that it can be planted into the ground for mobile cover, though we're told enemies can kick it over if they get close enough.
  • Once killed in a non-respawn game, players will enter a "dynamic battle-cam" that floats above the action.
  • Also available (when dead) will be a Ghost Cam where players can view the action from the battlefield and take screenshots that can be uploaded online similar to Halo 3.
  • Hammerhead Grunt Locust revealed and named as such because of his shark looking helmet.
  • The GoW2 Collector's Edition may include a weathered looking Polaroid of Dom's wife, the same one seen at the beginning of the game.
  • Development on Gears 2 is roughly at 65% complete.
  • Don't count on Call of Duty 4 style XP or perks, Cliff says they will not be adding these types of character building elements to the Gears universe.
