@justin258: It seems like an especially odd choice when the previous game had unlimited underwater breathing. It’s a weird choice to regress a mechanic, but it does kind of seem like Crystal had either run out of ideas, or were too scared to try anything new.
I loved Tomb Raider 2013, didn’t really get into Rise because it felt a bit soulless and the combat was very one note. I was hopeful that Shadow would be a return to form. This just feels a bit...eh. There’s too many other games that do interesting combat and pick ups for this to be an insta-buy.
I'm old enough to remember the scandal when this game came out, but was too young at the time to actually have the means to play it and know what the gameplay was like. Looking at it now, the 'horror' seems like nothing in comparison to your average CSI episode, and undeserving of its reputation even at the time. Fascinating stuff, I'm glad they went through it with someone who never experienced the game or the original fallout.
The first section with the band isn't great, for sure. Chloe gets a lot more charming and funny after this, and the choices are much more grey than the first game. After getting used to an automatic rewind with Max, this is a nice change that the developers make the most of.
Watching team-based games with a team member who doesn't want to play cooperatively isn't fun. It's not fun here and it's not fun in Murder Island, either.
