My Top 10 Games (in no particular order) of 2010

Here they are, in no particular order, the games I enjoyed the most this year.

The first 3 are the games in the running for my personal Game of the Year, I just can't decide which I want, yet.

Honorable Mentions:
Enslaved
DJ Hero 2
Donkey Kong Country Returns (So close to making it)
The Sly Collection
Kirby's Epic Yarn
God of War 3
Vanquish
Darksiders
Costume Quest
Pacman Championship Edition DX

List items

  • There's not much to say about Mass Effect 2 that hasn't been said ad infinitum, so I'll just say that many of my favorite characters of this generation find a home in this spectacular universe.

  • Red Dead's fantastic story, complimented by exciting gameplay and a riveting soundtrack combine to create an exhaustive, cohesive, and downright incredible whole.

  • The unsung hero of 2010. Many people in this community have played and loved this phenomenal game, but seeing it absent from many game of the year list disappoints me. At least I'll always find plenty of enjoyment in this one, with it's killer soundtrack, tight controls, and masochistic level design being among the best this decade.

  • Mario returns to the cosmos with more inventive level design and power-ups than ever before. If this game didn't fascinate or surprise you at any given moment, check your pulse.

  • A game about a boy, his sister, and the damned creepiest forest in entertainment, the stark beauty of Limbo gives it a feel like nothing else. A game that makes you think long after you've solved the final, sadistic puzzle.

  • I am in no way a capable RTS player. I've been slaughtered online in this game more times than I can count, but it doesn't stop me from coming back. The captivating campaign mode combined with a plethora of multiplayer options give this game longevity like none other...

  • That is, until this sucker came out. I had been off the World of Warcraft train for months. I enjoyed Wrath of the Lich King, but I couldn't keep up with the demanding time investment of raiding. My friend convinced me to buy this expansion merely a week ago, and I cannot stop exploring the constantly growing, constantly thriving Azeroth.

  • Minecraft; the game that's not even really a game yet. The breadth of possibilities in this game is endless, the only limitation being ones you set yourself. Talking about what makes this game special is damn near impossible, since it is usually a very personal reason. It's $15. If you haven't at least tried it, do it now.

  • Fucking ridiculous. I really can't explain it better than Ryan Davis did with this two word statement in the beginning of the year. It's certainly not for everyone, but those who can get into the deep, DEEP combat system are in for one hell of a treat.

  • Bungie's au revoir to their iconic series is easily the superior of the bunch. A superb singleplayer outing with one of the best final levels of any shooter this decade, an expansive competitive and cooperative selection, and tightly tuned gun play make this the best first-person shooter this year.
