Best games of 2011 that I've played

  • It nailed the film noire style, the sound design is pretty awesome, and the animations are incredible. I loved seeing the story evolve and digging for clues. With so much going for it I somehow managed to end up feeling a bit underwhelmed by the gameplay. I think the game could have done without having the option to use intuition while interviewing people. This made me feel too compelled to use it or look online to tell me what the right options were, even when I was right 90% of the time. Also, I just wish there was a bit more varied kind of things to do. I'm usually not one to collect a bunch of useless shit, so I didn't bother with the film reels and locations. They could have tied them into some crazy case and make it somewhat compelling, but I lack the ocd-like completionist drive to do it without any valid reason (Arkham City seems to have done a nice job other than the fact they made too many collectibles). My last gripe is with how the Street Crimes were implemented. If they made them into the whole random encounter thing in Red Dead Redemption or had them going on in front of you while driving around, I might have felt compelled to do more of them. Overall, the game is good, but with some tweaks would have been great and a game of the year contender for me.

  • What a truly great game. The new characters and puzzles really make this game stand out. My only gripe is that the some of crazy stuff that I remember from the trailers didn't make it into the game.

  • I know it is more of the same, but I haven't played one of the games since the Gold and Silver days. This made the formula feel fresh and the darker story was kind of cool. While the game is relatively simple, the variety of pokemon and how you can customize said pokemon makes this the best turn-based RPG I've played in a long while.

  • This is like Just Cause 2 was for me last year. Bulletstorm is cheesy, silly and doesn't take itself seriously (probably to a fault). The game has flaws in a lot of places, but it is the last FPS game that I've had a seriously fun time playing.
